Setting the tone with immersive keys, Nick La Riviere and The Best Laid Plans open their new single, Where We Go with the vulnerable and emotive lyrics, “I wanna tell you that I’m always looking over my shoulder, I’m always looking out for something more…”

The opus expands in a pop meets jazz-soul hybrid with a theatrical, contemporary energy to deliver a meaningful and introspective song which is inspired by Spirit of the West frontman, John Mann’s struggle with Alzheimers.

Nick La Riviere confesses, “While I didn’t know him personally, I perform regularly with another Spirit member, Geoffrey Kelly, and heard about his struggles. The song is a personal take, stating that I want to achieve as much as I can with the time I have on this earth, and hopefully do something worth remembering, like he did, even if I can’t remember myself.”

An accomplished trombonist who has toured internationally with bands such as the JUNO Award winning Paperboys, Michael Kaeshammer, and 54-40, Nick La Riviere also showcases his trombone talents on the soulful, piano-driven composition. We appreciate the uniqueness and intricate performance.

Nick La Riviere and The Best Laid Plans’ original music is influenced by artists like Trombone Shorty, Galactic, The Preservation Hall Band, and The Soul Rebels, although it is clear that they are creating a universe of their own.

The band features Nick on trombone and vocals, Miguel Valdes on trumpet, Barrie Sorensen on sax, Kelly Fawcett on guitar, Attila Fias on keys and vocals, Louis Rudner on bass and Alex Campbell on drums.
