Establishing the mood with textured percussion and a dimensional, psychedelic soundscape, The Night and the Dirty open My Hurt with cinematic intrigue, cymbal crashes and a hypnotic energy featuring atmospheric vocals.

We immediately connect with the metaphorical prose that comes to life with poetic prowess and the overarching cerebral nature of the track. There is no doubt that My Hurt would be perfect for a trippy TV show like Nine Perfect Strangers, or poolside at Petit Ermitage in West Hollywood, Los Angeles where songs like this often find their home at Cirque Gitane. The band innovatively describes their sound as “surf drench”.

The dynamism of the track is captivating, particularly the timbre switch-ups which are evocative, creating cohesive ebbs and flows between whispered vocals and more jarring deliveries. The presence of the instrumental segue with banjo and guitar is simply transcendental.

As for the message of My Hurt, the band confesses, “The song takes the listener on a journey of despair with cries for help in morse code, the death of a soul and revival by guitar. This was influenced by dark, subdued, repressed feelings, and Romanian folkinfluence.””

We learn that My Hurt was poignantly and intentionally released on December 7th, 2025, connected to the Pearl Harbor anniversary. This is also reflected in the single’s angular red and white artwork. reminiscent of a battle flag in burned, faded disarray.

The Night and The Dirty hail from Seattle, Washington, with a core lineup featuring vocals from Kelly McShane, Jeremiah Robinson on guitar, and the atmospheric keys courtesy of Michael Waller. The band records at Behold The Mighty Hunter Studios in Edmonds.
