The video for Edge of Glory was just unveiled on last night’s So You Think You Can Dance in the US. Unfortunately, the video is absolutely nothing that it was intended to be. In a way though (aside from the rather pathetic 80s Madonna comparisons that have cropped up once again), this might have actually worked for the better. The reason that the track itself did so well is down to the raw simplicity of the production values and the video (albeit not the original plan) definitely echoes that. It sees Gaga in streetwalker couture heels (what is new there?), thrusting and grinding outside a New York apartment with her saxophonist playing on the stairs.
From various KARLISMYUNKLE sources, the original concept of the video included the mermaid suit and tank under the Brooklyn Bridge that she wore on French TV earlier this week, various dancers, at least one male protagonist and a set of Joseph Kahn worthy production values. This was all axed mid-production and the entire cast and crew sent home. The outcome is a piece of rushed content directed by the Haus of Gaga. As rightly stated by Bradley Stern over at MuuMuse, it is definitely Gaga’s Gimme More video moment, except with more Versace.
This isn’t the last that we will hear of the drama surrounding Kahn and Gaga’s falling out and due to rather epic levels of unprofessionalism on Twitter from one of her primary collaborators revealing details and expressing her “disappointment” and preference for the Google Chrome commercial over the video, the floodgates are starting to open.

In line with the true marketing nature of the music industry right now – which can translate as “push out as much content as humanly possible”, Rihanna has just released her video for (possibly my favourite song from Loud), Man Down. Check out a great behind the scenes video here, along with the full video under the cut, directed by Anthony Mandler.

After literally weeks of anticipation and probably some of the worst industry management faux-pas from a certain record label that shall remain anonymous, the video for Beyoncé’s Run The World (Girls), finally hit on American Idol last night, and FUCK YES IT IS AMAZING. The choreography is undoubtedly going to be replicated all over clubs and YouTube for the next decade. Sadly, the track didn’t break iTunes last night (it is still at number 60), but will hopefully climb later this week. Directed by the incredible Francis Lawrence (Bad Romance, Circus, Cry Me a River), check out the video in full under the cut. Queen B worked with eight different choreographers for this, including Frank Gatson and Sheryl Murakami – you can tell (but not in an inconsistency way).
Oh and my favourite moment from the video? This face. The epitome of I am Sasha Fierce.
UPDATE: Here is the album cover for 4
