There is no doubt that Murinaj’s Only Connection is a profound meditation on the complexities of modern life, where the tension between work and personal fulfilment is often at odds. The track immediately draws us in with a minimalist guitar soundscape – gentle, spacious, and unhurried. It’s as if time slows down, allowing us to breathe deeply and reflect. As the song progresses, it blossoms into a lush, ambient rock arrangement with dimensional riffs that seem to stretch across an expansive emotional landscape, creating an atmosphere both intimate and grand. The production is refreshingly simple, allowing each element to speak with clarity and purpose.

Lyrically, Only Connection is poignant and deeply introspective, exploring the delicate equilibrium between work and life. Murinaj‘s words serve as a quiet reminder that, as the artist puts it, “the meaningful connections you gain in life do not come out of your cubicle.” This line strikes at the heart of the song’s message: the true essence of life is found in those moments of stillness and reflection, rather than the constant grind of daily obligations. The track acknowledges the necessity of work – “we still need to eat” – but challenges listeners to find balance, to carve out space for the things that truly matter.

The authenticity multi-disciplinary artist Justin Morano‘s creative process is evident not only in the content but also in the context of the recording. Capturing the track in the simplicity of an apartment with their cat by their side, Murinaj emphasizes the ethos behind the song: “No flashy production, no overzealous mixing. Just a moment for us all to share.” This minimalist approach mirrors the song’s thematic core, encouraging listeners to strip away the distractions of life and reconnect with what’s essential.

Influences from Bon Iver, Phil Collins, and Talking Heads subtly colour the track, but Murinaj’s sound remains distinct. The understated vocals float above the lush instrumental backdrop, with a delivery that is “painfully honest yet strategically ambiguous,” allowing us to project our own experiences onto the narrative. The guitar riffs, while reminiscent of ambient pioneers, possess a rawness and emotional resonance that feels wholly personal. Much like the track’s introspective nature, the sonic landscape is expansive yet intimate, inviting listeners to lose themselves in its layers while finding pieces of their own story within it.

Only Connection stands as a testament to Murinaj‘s ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, using minimalism to amplify depth and emotion. This song, recorded in just a few hours as a lesson in simplification, captures the essence of what it means to live authentically—without overcomplicating, yet brimming with meaning. Murinaj’s commitment to simplicity, both in life and in art, shines through every note, making Only Connection not just a song but an experience.

As Murinaj poignantly reflects, “The times you are away from your obligations—those are the moments that shape who you really are.” This line encapsulates the very heart of Only Connection, a track that asks us to look beyond the noise and distractions, and in doing so, find our true selves.

We have added Only Connection to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Murinaj‘s wider discography, including their debut single, I Wonder Why I’m Upside Down, and his sophomore single, Fear of Quiet.

New Haven-based multi-disciplinary musician, Murinaj, also known as Justin Morano has just released their follow up single Fear of Quiet.

The passionate artist has delivered a refined synth-pop track with euphoric elements and polished vocal production. The song opens with the lyrics “And the snow comes down and waits another hour, the empty cup still hopes it turns into rain, with the fear of quiet, I brace for the encounter, and I wish I’d only get you to stay.”

We love the dimensionality of the story telling as Murinaj takes us on a personal and poetic journey. The use of high technology in the track, primarily synthesizers and vocal production, make the experience vibrant, futuristic, yet nostalgic and spontaneous.

Speaking on the track, Murinaj says “Fear of Quiet focuses on the balance between optimism and irrational hope. With influence from the likes of Bon Iver, Phil Collins and Japanese House, Fear of Quiet focuses on the equilibrium these two polarities. .

“The track relies on a pocket characterised nearly three decades ago with heavy synths and melancholy vocals to convey a sense of nostalgia towards the unknown.”

Make sure to check out their debut I wonder why I’m upside down below too!
