Setting the tone with a cerebral, glitched energy, evolving with fierce electric guitar, bold drums and atmospheric vocals, MudBelly open Sludge with subversion and philosophical depth. Needless to say, we are immediately mesmerized.

The opus takes us on a thought-provoking journey with its lyricism, filled with unrelatable energy, astral guitar riffs with futuristic nuance, and a gritty bassline. Speaking on the release, the self-described “messy, sassy and heavy” creators confess, “our single is very silly and has a message of ‘I just don’t care’.” We appreciate the escapism. Now more than ever. In essence, the “I just don’t care” message of Sludge is great because it invites us to live in the present moment. 

Listening to Sludge, with its unorthodox construction and percussion provides a multifaceted cognitive experience. The unconventional rhythms and unexpected sounds demand attention, enhancing focus and concentration.

This exposure to novel stimuli within Sludge, promotes neuroplasticity, encouraging our brains to reconfigure its neural networks and fostering cognitive flexibility. Emotionally, the juxtaposition of discordant elements evokes a range of feelings, contributing to emotional intelligence and resilience.

We learn that Sludge was produced by Toby Lloyd, and the band let us know that the track “is truly a sound for the highway, with the windows down.” The confess that “amps were pushed 
far beyond capacity” during the creation process, which we appreciate, as it feels progressive and simultaneously unhinged.

The accompanying video set for release imminently (updated below!) is a three minute trip, tapping into that subversive energy that MudBelly are manifesting with a narrative of “payback to a gang of wayward inflatable baby sharks”.
