Establishing the mood with an intricate, astral synthscape with meditative textures and ad-lib vocalizations, Mr Kaas opens Peonies with atmospheric, panning vocals and a delicate, ethereal Aftrobeats vibe.

The opus expands with a cinematic energy which feels super unique. We appreciate the ancient-futurism that manifests with the sound design. There is no doubt that Peonies would be perfect for a range of sync placements, perhaps Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Harder They Fall, or Beyoncé‘s Black Is King.

It feels innovative and serene at the same time, almost as if we are in a futuristic Afro-pop dimension. There is also a contemporary relatability and high emotional quotient that comes to life with the message of the track. Speaking on the release, Mr Kaas confesses, “Peonies bloomed from a season of chaos and clarity – the kind of days where you’re dodging demons, cutting off old ghosts, and still finding the strength to keep your people good.”

The rising artist from Birmingham, England elaborates, “The song is a confession wrapped in confidence, a reminder that even the toughest souls carry something soft inside. The title comes from the peony flower, known for its layered petals and timeless beauty. Just like peonies, the song is about the kind of love and loyalty that stays vibrant even when life gets messy. It’s the contrast of a hardened heart protecting something delicate – a tribute to the people you care for, and to the quiet beauty they bring into your storm. Peonies is both a flex and a feeling: a soundtrack for anyone fighting their battles, chasing their cheddar, and still rooting daily for the ones they love.”

Entirely self-created and self-produced, Peonies was recorded in Mr Kaas‘s intimate home setup in Birmingham using a microphone gifted by someone he lost, adding emotional weight and a sense of legacy to the process.

Experimenting with unconventional vocal layering and chopped phrases, Mr Kaas crafted the track intuitively and with great authenticity. Fans of Burna Boy, Rema, and J Hus will recognise the futuristic Afrobeats energy, but Mr Kaas is carving his own lane with a more intimate, experimental sound rooted in personal storytelling.
