Opening like the scene from a sci-fi movie, pulsing waves of sound hit us as New York artist MoAsanti delivers EQd vocals that feel like a surrealist expression.

Speaking on the release, MoAsanti says, “My release is a culmination of whatever I felt in the past few months. I was just so upset with everything and it resulted in this song. I feel like this is worth writing about, because I wrote this song as two arcs with a dynamic change of moods and energies. I feel as though I stepped out of my comfort zone and I hope you’ll feel like that too.“

We are definitely moved by the artist’s subversive expression. MoAsanti decided to take up music in 2017, inspired by the sounds of the underground.

The artist recalls, “I remember in the 10th grade – I was trying to make music with two of my other friends and I don’t exactly remember why, but we never actually ended up putting out a song together. Then I remember walking home from the Bronx and just decided to stop procrastinating with putting anything out. I had made my first complete beat a month prior and just decided to actually get into it. I recorded, and yeah, it sounded low quality – but I put it out in August and received decent reception. From there, the rest felt like clockwork.“

MoAsanti cites Sade, Kanye and Lil Wayne as influences, as we can feel that in the melting pot that is wave.

He goes on to explain that, “The whole ethos behind the track was just stepping into my own zone. I feel like a lot of music is redundant and I wanted to step out of it, regardless of the reception I received. With that being said, I dropped this just to make a statement and share where my head was at mentally.”

We love to see artists flourish and grow into their own and MoAsanti says, “This song specifically was about breaking out of my shell. I just went partially off the grid for this project – I felt like I was just constantly getting upset looking at others’ success and constantly feeling overlooked. I felt trapped in a box for several months, just being off Instagram, deactivating my Twitter, barely seeing my friends and barely creating. I initially made this song last year but when I re-recorded this and made the second verse, I made it with a point in mind. The point in question? I’ve gotta wake the whole world up to me.”

“Last year I wanted to wait until I was comfortable to make things happen. I now realize that I need to stop waiting and make things happen.”
