<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We previously featured <a href="https://karlismyunkle.com/2026/06/15/mark-cee-reflects-on-grief-and-resilience-with-poignant-folk-single-how-you-left-me-still/"><strong>Mark Cee </strong>as he reflected on grief and resilience with his poignant folk single, <strong><em>How You Left Me Still</em></strong></a>, so when we heard that Mark was back with <strong><em>Missed Connection</em></strong>, we were curious to say the least, and couldn&#8217;t wait to listen and share our experience. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Missed Connection</em></strong> opens with a live set-up atmospheric energy that expands with intricate and glistening acoustic guitar and cosmic flute detailing as Mark sings, &#8220;It&#8217;s a missed connection, our souls are in the wrong direction&#8230; as I stare at your picture, taken so long, so long ago, I hope you know that you were everything to me&#8230;&#8221;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We immediately connect with the raw authenticity and the high emotional quotient that manifests. The subject matter of the song is open to interpretation. It could be about the loss of a loved one, or a relationship, or simply an astral journey of lives that never crossed &#8211; the lyrics are open enough for us to connect with on a multitude of levels. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whilst <a href="https://karlismyunkle.com/2026/06/15/mark-cee-reflects-on-grief-and-resilience-with-poignant-folk-single-how-you-left-me-still/"><strong><em>How You Left Me Still</em></strong></a> reminded us of <strong>Bob Dylan</strong>, Mark&#8217;s energy on this one really reminds us of early<strong> Elliott Smith</strong>, the analogue warmth and Mark&#8217;s delicate vocals manifest in a sublime and cohesive tapestry of sound. In an age of so much digital noise, what <strong>Mark Cee </strong>is creating feels raw, organic and much-needed. It is no surprise that his artistry has also drawn comparisons to <strong>Bon Iver, Nick Drake, Sufjan Stevens, </strong>and<strong> Iron &amp;</strong> <strong>Wine</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We appreciate <strong>Mark Cee</strong>&#8216;s commitment to preserving the human element of songwriting. <strong><em>Missed Connection</em></strong> was recorded at his home studio, resulting in a super intimate listening experience that feels timeless. We could imagine&nbsp;<strong>Missed Connection</strong>&nbsp;being featured in a film like the Oscar-winning, <strong>One Battle After Another</strong>, or even Spielberg&#8217;s <strong>Disclosure Day</strong>.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Needless to say, we have added <strong>Missed Connection</strong> to our <strong>New Music Spotlight</strong> playlist and our <strong>TIMELESS</strong> playlist, whilst we continue to look forward to <strong>Mark Cee&#8217;</strong>s forthcoming EP, <strong>It&#8217;s Me, Mark Cee.</strong> Make sure to follow<strong><a href="https://open.spotify.com/artist/6Q7xRzQLHqNwnAQKpk2Tf0?si=KoU9hfXYR4e5XPlRxV7-RA"> Mark Cee&#8217;s Spotify artist profile</a></strong> and save the track to your personal library!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="Spotify Embed: How You Left Me Still" style="border-radius: 12px" width="100%" height="152" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" loading="lazy" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/1YgBchpyOoo00ySiLeKbqE?si=e64c20dfec1944b3&amp;utm_source=oembed"></iframe>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Drawing us in with a subtle rising frequency and acoustic guitar soundscape, <strong>Mark Cee</strong> opens<strong><em> How You Left Me Still </em></strong>with notions of timelessness and atmospheric vocals as he sings, &#8220;Woke up to a late night phone call, as I heard the crying down the hall&#8230;&#8221;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We immediately connect with the poetic prowess, and raw, stripped-back nature of the track as Mark taps into an energy reminiscent of early <strong>Bob Dylan</strong>. There&#8217;s a psychedelic folk-edge that manifests, which also reminds us of <strong>Elliott Smith.</strong> </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Speaking on the release, Mark confesses, &#8220;This is an authentic acoustic song written from real life struggle and talks of the resilience and difficulties of moving on without someone, who was an essential part of your life. The impetus for the song was the death of my father-in-law and my mother-in-law&#8217;s reaction in the days and months following. This affected me in my relationship with my dad and helps me reflect on it.&#8221;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="900" height="805" data-id="57047" src="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Mark_Cee_How.jpg?resize=900%2C805&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-57047" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Mark_Cee_How.jpg?w=900&amp;ssl=1 900w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Mark_Cee_How.jpg?resize=632%2C565&amp;ssl=1 632w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Mark_Cee_How.jpg?resize=768%2C686&amp;ssl=1 768w" sizes="(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption">Screenshot</figcaption></figure>
</figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There is a cinematic allure that manifests with the track, and we could imagine it being featured in a <strong>Sofia Coppola</strong> film, or a <strong>Luca Guadagnino</strong> production. We learn that <strong>Mark Cee</strong>, who is based in New York, has also garnered comparisons to Bon Iver. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>How You Left Me Still </em></strong> is taken from his forthcoming LP, <strong>It&#8217;s Me &#8211; Mark Cee</strong>, which is set to further showcase his talent for transforming profound personal struggle into universally relatable musical narratives. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Needless to say, we deeply connect with what <strong>Mark Cee</strong> is sharing, and have added <strong><em>How You Left Me Still </em></strong>to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream his previous album, Ghost Talk Show, and anticipate the release of <strong>It&#8217;s Me &#8211; Mark Cee</strong>!</p>
