Establishing the mood with a rhythmic guitar soundscape, Lotus Grove open Ordinary People with situational prose rooted in philosophical and metaphorical themes. We appreciate the raw and personal approach to songwriting that also reflects the zeitgeist.

The hook, “Ordinary People put their memories on a shelf…” resonates really deeply. There is no doubt that the track has a cinematic allure. In a way, it feels like a movie in its own right, but would also be perfect for a sync placement in a TV show like My Life with the Walter Boys, or perhaps PLUR1BUS, which taps into human psychology, the concepts of memory, and notions of what “ordinary people” experience in a different reality.

The guitar interlude and solo are transcendental, allowing for introspection on the message of the song before a stripped-back finale with a super high emotional quotient. We love the design of the track, it is unexpected and definitely leaves us yearning for more.

There is definitely a sense of timeless nostalgia attached to Ordinary People, both lyrically and sonically. The production and instrumental performances are exquisite, and there is no doubt that Lotus Grove create a cohesive tapestry of sound that feels effortless and natural to them after fifteen years of performing together.

We learn that Lotus Grove blends diverse and non-specific influences into their sound, and are led lyrically by vocalist Ryan. Ordinary People was recorded at Maze Studios in Atlanta, is the second track from an ambitious 12-song project.
