We previously featured Kavita Baliga for her ethereal and intimate single, Will You Miss Me Then, so when we heard that the talented artist was back with Lost in the Dark, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience!

Establishing the mood with a cosmic, meditative frequency and psychedelic percussion elements, Kavita Baliga opens Lost in the Dark with a spiritual sense of dimensionality. The opus expands with a cinematic allure and atmospheric vocals as Kavita sings, “Lying here dreaming in colour, counting stars that never fall… The echoes are soft, swirling around, and it feels like, I’ll risk it all…”

Lost in the Dark manifests as a journey of self-discovery and emotional awakening. Kavita navigates notions of uncertainty and fear, which are in essence, symbolized by darkness, whilst still being drawn toward something transformative, represented by the flame.

We connect with the imagery of stars, whispers, and gentle nudges, which convey guidance and hope amidst her confusion. At its core, the lyrics captures elements of change and connection. Kavita’s authenticity comes to life as a mix of vulnerability and exhilaration as she follow her intuition and emotions. Lost in the Dark explores trust, courage, and finding one’s place in our world. The repeated refrain highlights the intensity and persistence of Kavita’s emotional journey.

Fans of Björk and Madonna‘s Ray of Light era will be able to connect with the trippy elements, whilst the high emotional quotient with ethereal vocals feels aligned Lana Del Rey, although the overarching sound is unmistakably from the 80s, reminiscent of Foreigner‘s I Want to Know What Love Is, Heart‘s Alone and Richard Marx‘s Right Here Waiting.

Speaking on the release, and its sonic design, Kavita confesses, “Lost in the Dark is my love letter to the power ballads that shaped me. In today’s turbulent unjust world, it’s a reminder that music can make us feel joyful, empowered, and alive.”

We love the build of the track, the 80s, wailing guitar and the textured drums with shimmering synths. Lost in the Dark was co-produced with Grammy-winning guitarist Michael Thompson and 33x Grammy-winning/nominated producer/engineer Craig Bauer.
