We previously featured Chimera by LunaRover, which served as a sonic odyssey through love, illusion, nostalgia and self-discovery, so when we found out that the duo was back with Little Things, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Little Things opens with a bold, divergent synthscape and syncopated, textured drums before we experience the lyrics, “When I come home, but you’re already there, I get to feel you, wrapped up in my arms, I push you away, I couldn’t accept, what I was feeling, it was everything…”

We appreciate the astral riffs that detail the prose, tapping into a spacey and otherworldly energy. The chord changes manifest a high emotional quotient and we connect with the introspective nature of the prose. Speaking on the message behind the release, LunaRover tells us, “The song is about learning to love all of the little things about a romantic partner as the relationship grows.”

We learn that Little Things was built asynchronously in home basement studios. The production is intricate and experimental with a dimensional edge. DIY recording allowed full creative freedom for the track which features ethereal vocals sitting over a hypnotic beat.

Heavenly choir layers bloom in the second verse, and a NASA sample is transformed through a glitch generator into a striking solo moment for the opus. Little Things was mixed by Adrian Olsen at Montrose Recordings. It was mastered by Dave McNair, and influences include St. Vincent and Beck, whilst Pink Floyd and ELO textures surface later in the song. We could imagine Little Things locking in a number of sync placements, notably a TV show like PLUR1BUS on Apple TV!

LunaRover is a recording project based in Silver Spring, Maryland. The band is the brainchild of longtime collaborators Kevin Rieth and Ben Pelletier. Kevin handles vocals, synth, bass, guitar and samples, whilst Ben contributes vocals, synth and samples. Both artists work independently and remotely.

Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Little Things to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of LunaRover, and anticipate future releases from the visionary duo.
