Drawing us in with an atmospheric riser, OpCritical open Liar Liar with textured drums and the poignant lyrics, “Liar, liar, world’s on fire, everywhere’s a funeral pyre, Liar, liar, world’s on fire, you’re gonna get what you desire…”

The opus expands into a cerebral, alternative rock-meets-electro-punk energy as we are taken on an eye-opening journey as the hook resonates like a mantra. The production is dimensional and the message is important. We appreciate the zeitgeist notions and the overarching concept of the song which is designed to shine a light on the state of society right now.

An invitation to “take it to the streets” feels like a call-to-arms, and the sonic switch ups are pretty epic. The build of the track is exquisite with dramatic and cinematic bass performances, glitched nuances, and of course, visceral prose laced with poetic prowess.

Fans of early Hollywood Undead would absolutely be able to vibe with what OpCritical have created. Speaking on their intention, the anonymous band says, “We all need to push back against the destructive conduct of oligarchs around the world who amass great wealth and power but refuse to use them to help society.”

The music video for Liar Liar is exceptionally intelligent and symbolic too. It uses LEGO-style imagery and dark, cinematic visuals to portray our world being fractured by deceit and the concentration of power. This is also naturally reflected in the song’s artwork. We see a melting world, Trump in an ICE vest, freedom bombs, fake news, Putin, and eventually the outcome of a successful protest!

We could imagine the track being featured in the recent Oscar-winning film, One Battle After Another which reflects these themes of protest and revolution. All in all, the track and visuals are brilliant, and much-needed on a societal level. Bravo.

Naturally, we have added Liar Liar to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of OpCritical, including USA, and Not My America.

Drawing us in with an astral frequency and intricate guitar arpeggios, Lewis Knaggs opens Liar Liar with atmospheric vocals as he shares the poignant, yet relatable prose, “I said that I would always love you, I said that I’d be here just holding on, you’re all I ever needed, I was wrong… I opened up the gates, then closed them, you had me in your grip, slipped through them, I only wanted more and more and more…”

We immediately connect with the raw authenticity that Lewis Knaggs writes with and the high emotional quotient of his lyricism. The performance itself is sublime, almost ethereal, as we are taken on a somewhat introspective journey.

We could imagine Liar Liar locking in a number of sync placements, notably a TV show like Love Is Blind, or a Hollywood movie which reflects the narrative of the prose. The production is minimalist at first but grows with anthemic drums. We love the vocal production which has a cerebral essence.

The concept of the hook is quite genius, and assertive in its execution as Lewis seeks the truth and honesty. In essence, Liar Liar is a sharp and introspective song about the quiet lies we tell ourselves. Lewis taps into philosophical depth as he shares how those inner distortions shape our relationships.

The track builds on the emotional honesty of Lewis’ previous release, City of Millions. It is designed to explore the tension between our private truths and public personas. The narrative highlights how self-deception, unresolved feelings and miscommunication can erode trust. In this sense, considering current world issues, the track feels politically zeitgeist too and important.

We have added Liar Liar to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Lewis Knaggs, including Everybody’s Falling Apart, and Never Say Never.
