Setting the tone with immersive ascending keys and a textured riser, Lewis Muller opens Deny with atmospheric vocals singing the vulnerable lyrics, “I’ve seen you creeping, and if you really want to let me down, you’ll hold your tongue, you don’t tell me how you feel, say I’m fragile, why do I act so blind?”

The song expands into and emotive ballad driven by pulsating electronica with pop and R&B influences, about the process of letting go of a toxic relationship. Speaking on the release, Lewis Muller tells us, “I wrote the song after going through a rough time with someone. Littering simple melodic phrases throughout the song, I wanted to evoke my desire for my ex-lover to treat me with the integrity I deserved.”

The rising artist from Amsterdam adds, “The song features a janky electric synth piano, as I’m trying to search for signs that there might be hope left, but realising that nothing will pacify my pain.”

Muller began creating music on Garageband at the age of 12 and has since continued to grow as both an artist and a producer. Inspired by the possibilities of blending musical styles from electronica, dance and pop, he cites a hybrid of artists including Janet Jackson, Aphex Twin and Sade as inspiration, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own.
