We have previously featured a slew of Andy Smythe‘s releases, so naturally, we couldn’t wait to start 2026 with the visionary artist, and share his latest single, Leviathan. The track opens with a textured drum roll, expanding into a commanding folk-rock meets power-pop soundscape as Andy shares philosophical and metaphorical prose.

We appreciate the journey that Andy is taking us on conceptually. In essence, Leviathan explores the idea of powerful figures throughout history – nodding to leaders and systems created to control society.

The lyrics are laced with cultural references and strong questions about the Antichrist and the intention behind these figures. Whilst they are meant to bring order, they often fail to improve equality and the human experience.

This feels more zeitgeist than ever with the recent invasion of Venezuela, the threats to Greenland and the various wars and genocides taking place all over the world. Andy shares some history by commenting how the United Nations was formed after World War II to help regulate these so-called rogue states, but its veto system limits how much power it truly has.

Leviathan looks toward a possible future utopia, where advanced AI could help resolve conflicts, share global resources more fairly, and manage challenges like climate change.

The soundscape is timeless and dynamic, tapping into notions of Bob Dylan and the Specials. We can feel Lennon and Bowie manifest with the high emotional quotient too. This is a solo project, with Andy playing guitars, synths, organ, bass, and blues harp. The track is ambitious but ultimately optimistic, reflected in its carnival-like sound.

What Andy Smythe is creating is important music. Revolutionary at its core. This certainly explains the name of his upcoming album, Quiet Revolution, set for release on March 13th, 2026. In the meantime, we have added Leviathan to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS playlist, as we continue to stream Andy Smythe‘s exquisite, growing discography!
