I don’t think I (or any true fans i.e. a lot of you!) had any doubts that this performance would be culturally appropriate and perfectly executed, the mystery just lay in the detail!

There was lots of speculation to the level of political commentary included in the set, but let’s be real – Gaga, along with countless artists and creatives (myself included) have fought relentlessly for freedom, particularly towards the end of last year. We all learnt that the echo chambers we live in are exactly that. This was a chance for an artist who has ALWAYS fought for freedom, inclusion and liberty to have the biggest stage in the world for 13 minutes and showcase their legacy – there is no escaping the politics – and read in to it as you will (even Just Dance felt like a freedom song!), but there is no denying the class with which it was executed – a performance to unite, not to divide. Let’s be real, at this point, #45 doesn’t deserve a name check in ANY capacity. This is a timeless feat.

Personal highlights for me were the drones from Intel – because duh, drones. Of course, jumping off the roof is no small feat, and delivering the show SOLO- completely SOLO is the biggest statement fall – she is a rare human that can carry this alone.

So much class, a legacy of power, freedom, humanitarian values and undeniable talent. I love you Lady Gaga – grateful for the impact you have had in my life and I’m so happy the world gave you this deserved platform at a time when it needs it the most.

Both Seeing Stars and Demons sit really beautifully together, opening with cinematic synth production (Adam Relf) and a sad core yet haunting vocals from Isaac Howlett – the repetition, although frequent, doesn’t wear thin, it just cements and builds on emotion.

Onto The Weeknd, I’ve been obsessed with Starboy since it dropped last month – the shameless pop production is more than totally fine with me – I know it alienated a lot of fans, but I think Daft Punk and Abel have created a great track here.

Last but not least, here’s the Mogul remix of Ady Suleiman’s Wait For You, who is fresh off the festival circuit after performing at V and Glastonbury.

I’ll probably do another Fall post this month, considering Joanne is out on Friday. I was lucky enough to be at the listening party in NYC last month, but signed my life away, so can’t share any details – other than the fact that humanity will be receiving an incredible piece of artistry. Lennon mindset for today. Where are our leaders? I’d rather save an Angel Down.

This is going to come from a few directions but I will try to keep it is as succinct as possible. Firstly, Perfect Illusion is a perfect illusion. It’s almost what ARTPOP intended by “my ARTPOP could mean anything”. If anything, this is a totally natural construct of a wider understanding. The song also shows the vulnerability that we haven’t experienced vocally since the end part of Bad Romance. I don’t talk about celebrity relationships but the song, of course could/is also about her relationship status/love, but also cocaine (or your preferred drug of choice), but also a conceptual reality.

If anything, it is one of the most universally relatable songs ever written in the history of time.

Again, a reason why I feel it has been critically under-rated as a piece of art. Maybe, it just takes time to sink in.

Anyway, from a production standpoint, you’re talking to a human who LOVED Grimes and Bloodpop’s GO, so that future bass element alone brings entire levels of joy to my life. Gaga’s vocal delivery is UNPRECEDENTED in her career – the rawness, key change and range alone are TO BE RIVALLED BY ANY CURRENT ARTIST. Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Bloodpop, Tame Impala – you superheroes of music.

Also, and I know this is going to sound odd, but I am going to address it anyway because most people writing “reviews” about a song probably won’t address this. Gaga is one of THE ONLY white pop artists in the current climate to show massive solidarity for Black Lives Matters, and is an exception to humanity who has transcended music and art and is an unrivalled deity. So please understand if you are a person of colour, you have more than just an ally, you have a woke goddess of the future backing you.

Finally, briefly on the artwork and direction. Mindset, rawness, documentary approach – all exactly how it should be done at this stage, considering history and the need to musicians to revalidate themselves in a digital era gone awry.

It’s only the 6th of January and there are two absolutely brilliant pieces of creative that I wanted to highlight. First of all, the covers for Lady Gaga’s rather genius curated issue for V Magazine featuring the timelessly brilliant concept of Karl Lagerfeld shooting Hedi Slimane and Hedi Slimane shooting Karl Lagerfeld. Essentially, two of fashions biggest creative / design stars going tete-a-tete. It’s beautiful.

The other covers feature Alexander McQueen and Isabella Blow posthumously edited, but originally photographed by Steven Klein. An incredible tribute. Finally, the star of the show herself – Gaga as a solo shot and even more provoking Gaga alongside Daphne Guinness.

“These are people who have kept me and protected me over the years, because they’ve wanted me to survive…that’s part of the message of this issue: we have to carry each other through the decades and take care of one another and honor each other’s work…I am saying thank you to all these people for everything they’ve given to me…I want to make sure the world knows who they are…it’s a guard of people…I call them my Fashion Guard!”

Secondly, the only health and fitness brand to truly embrace the use of high profile fashion photography is Equinox. With their last campaign photographed by Rankin, the luxury gym brand has now enlisted an even darker approach with Steven Klein at the helm of creative. The campaign is titled “Commit To Something” and is also styled by Mel Ottenberg featuring some incredible characters including Lydia Hearst.

On a third point, I really wanted to nod to and give my (albeit) brief opinion on the polarising images of Jaden Smith. Yes it is a bold and rather “late” move for Louis Vuitton, and the press it has generated is understandably polarising, but let’s please remember that the fact that a luxury brand is continuing down this path is not purely down to media agenda hijacking, but furthering equality in a genderless space that still needs a lot of work – so really it is never too late.

Instead of a traditional show this season, Tom Ford and his team have taken the focus to digital and digital content with an incredible Spring Summer 16 showcase featuring Lady Gaga! The inspiration? Soul Train from the 1970 with a very 2015 take. The track? A rework of the legendary Nile Rogers’ “I Want Your Love” with vocals from Lady Gaga – somewhat of a perfect cultural fit! You might remember when Gaga was in the studio with Nile Rogers a few months ago and then previewed the track in an Instagram video last week. The video is directed by Nick Knight with director of photography Benoit Delhomme.

The collection? Well, dark with beautiful use of colour and some rather statement jackets – very consistently Tom Ford which makes sense with the priority being digital. You can watch the show/film here.

Words cannot express how excited the world is for the new season of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story and the previews and teasers just keep on giving. EW just premiered the official first look at Lady Gaga in her new TV role alongside the rest of the cast and what can I say, it looks phenomenal. Some of the plot has also been unveiled by Mr Murphy including the following highlight on Gaga’s character ‘The Countess’. I really don’t want to spoil the rest for you!

…The owner of the titular Hotel Cortez, The Countess is a glamorous but deadly creature who sustains on a healthy diet of sex and blood — she kills with her very fashionable but very sharp chainmail glove. “She’s extremely strong,” explains Gaga. “She’s been through so much. It’s kind of impossible for anything to penetrate her.”
