UPDATE:

Wireless Festival forced to cancel as British government’s Home Office has blocked Kanye West from entering the UK to perform at the festival because his presence would “not be conducive to the public good”.

—

Controversy is spiralling around Kanye West after his headline booking at Wireless Festival triggered mounting backlash, political pressure, and a wave of sponsor withdrawals, with tensions escalating by the hour.

The rapper, who has faced repeated criticism for antisemitic remarks in recent years, is now at the centre of a growing storm in the UK. Despite the outrage, West has responded by offering to meet with members of the British Jewish community, positioning the move as a step toward reconciliation. However, that gesture has been met with scepticism.

The Campaign Against Antisemitism has warned it will organise a “mass demonstration” outside the festival in London’s Finsbury Park if West’s performance goes ahead in July. The group questioned the sincerity of his outreach, suggesting that any meeting would be meaningless unless he first withdraws from the event.

Meanwhile, the financial fallout has already begun. Major brands including Pepsi and Diageo have pulled their sponsorship, signalling serious reputational concerns. PayPal is also reportedly distancing itself, stepping back from promotional involvement.

The controversy has now reached the highest levels of government. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood is facing calls to revoke West’s visa, which was only recently granted. Officials are understood to be reviewing whether his presence in the UK aligns with the “public good,” a standard that can justify barring entry on grounds including extremism or risk of public disorder.

Adding to the pressure, the Board of Deputies of British Jews has said it would be willing to meet West, but only if he cancels his Wireless appearance first. Its leadership stressed that genuine remorse must be demonstrated before any public platform is considered appropriate.

Festival organisers have so far stood by their decision, calling for “forgiveness” and urging critics to give the artist a chance. But with sponsors exiting, protests looming, and political scrutiny intensifying, the situation remains volatile.

As the countdown to July continues, the question is no longer just about one performance, it is about whether one of the UK’s biggest music festivals can withstand the backlash now threatening to engulf it.

Major brands including Pepsi and Diageo have withdrawn their sponsorship from the Wireless Festival in 2026, following backlash over the booking of Kanye West as the headline act. The decision highlights the growing tension between corporate responsibility, public opinion, and the role of controversial artists in mainstream entertainment.

The withdrawal came after widespread criticism of West’s past behaviour, particularly his repeated antisemitic remarks and public praise for Adolf Hitler. He has also faced outrage for promoting Nazi-related imagery and releasing a song titled “Heil Hitler.” These actions have been condemned by political leaders, including Keir Starmer, who described the booking as “deeply concerning” and stressed that antisemitism must be confronted firmly.

For global brands like Pepsi and Diageo, association with such controversy presents a serious reputational risk. Sponsorship is not just about visibility, it is about values. Companies increasingly distance themselves from figures whose actions could alienate consumers or appear to endorse harmful ideologies. In this case, pulling out is less about music and more about maintaining public trust and ethical positioning.

This situation also feeds into the broader debate around cancel culture. Critics argue that withdrawing sponsorship is part of a culture that punishes individuals indefinitely, even after apologies. West has previously apologised, attributing his behaviour to mental health struggles, yet the backlash persists. Supporters claim this shows how difficult it is for public figures to recover once they cross certain lines.

However, others see this not as “cancel culture” but as accountability. When speech crosses into hate or extremist praise, consequences are expected, especially in high-profile platforms like major festivals. Corporations, unlike individuals, must consider their global audience and the potential harm of remaining associated with controversy.

The question of whether there are “different rules” for Black men is more complex. Some argue that Black artists face harsher scrutiny or fewer second chances compared to others. Others counter that West’s situation is not about race but about the severity and repetition of his statements, which have triggered widespread condemnation across political, cultural, and religious groups. Fans have also noted that Pepsi and Diageo refused to call out the genocide in Palestine, but are ready to cancel a Black man over the use of words.

Ultimately, the Wireless Festival controversy reflects a shifting cultural landscape where fame no longer shields individuals from consequences. Brands, audiences, and institutions are all playing a role in redefining where the line is drawn between artistic freedom and social responsibility.

Kanye West has issued a sweeping public apology for the harm he has caused, including his widely condemned antisemitic remarks, in a paid letter published through The Wall Street Journal. Titled To Those I’ve Hurt and signed “Ye, formerly known as Kanye West,” the letter reads as both a personal reckoning and a plea for patience as he seeks stability, accountability, and forgiveness.

The letter opens with a look back at a pivotal moment in West’s life. “Twenty-five years ago, I was in a car accident that broke my jaw and caused injury to the right frontal lobe of my brain,” he writes. While the visible injuries were treated, West says the deeper neurological damage went unnoticed for decades. “That medical oversight caused serious damage to my mental health and led to my bipolar type-1 diagnosis,” which he says was not properly identified until 2023.

West spends much of the letter describing how bipolar disorder distorted his sense of reality, particularly during manic episodes. “When you’re manic, you don’t think you’re sick. You think everyone else is overreacting,” he writes, adding that the condition can feel “powerful, certain, and unstoppable,” even as it erodes judgment and empathy. He cites research from the World Health Organization and Cambridge University, noting that people with bipolar disorder face a significantly shortened life expectancy and higher all-cause mortality.

The most personal passages focus on the damage done to those closest to him. “I said and did things I deeply regret. Some of the people I love the most, I treated the worst,” West admits. He acknowledges that loved ones endured “fear, confusion, humiliation, and the exhaustion of trying to love someone who was, at times, unrecognizable.” Looking back, he says, “I became detached from my true self.”

Addressing the behavior that fueled global backlash, West directly confronts his past statements. “I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change,” he writes. He then states plainly, “I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.” While emphasizing that illness does not excuse harm, West frames this declaration as a clear rejection of the ideologies he once echoed.

He also apologizes to the Black community, writing, “The Black community is, unquestionably, the foundation of who I am. I am so sorry to have let you down. I love us.” The apology broadens his message beyond any single group, positioning the letter as an attempt to address the cumulative impact of his words and actions.

West reveals that in early 2025 he experienced a four-month manic episode marked by “psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life.” He acknowledges moments when “I didn’t want to be here anymore,” underscoring the severity of his mental health crisis. Hitting what he describes as rock bottom ultimately pushed him to accept help.

Unexpectedly, West says he found solace in online forums. “I found comfort in Reddit forums of all places,” he writes, explaining that reading the experiences of others with bipolar disorder made him realize he was not alone. This sense of shared struggle helped him confront years of denial and misdiagnosis.

As he describes his current path forward, West points to medication, therapy, exercise, and clean living as the foundation of a “new baseline.” With renewed clarity, he says he is channeling his energy into “positive, meaningful art, music, clothing, design, and other new ideas to help the world.”

The letter closes not with a demand for absolution, but with restraint. “I’m not asking for sympathy, or a free pass, though I aspire to earn your forgiveness,” West writes. “I write today simply to ask for your patience and understanding as I find my way home.”

The new trailer for The Kardashians Season 7 has left fans reeling – and reviving a years-old controversy between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

In a shocking first look at the upcoming Hulu season, a tearful Kim, 44, reveals that her life was in danger. “I got a call from investigators. Someone extremely close to me put a hit out on my life,” she says in the emotional clip, as cameras show her breaking down in tears while police cars arrive at her home. The revelation sent shockwaves across social media – with many immediately drawing connections to her ex-husband Kanye West.

Kanye’s Past Claim

Back in February 2022, during their bitter divorce battle, Kanye publicly claimed on Instagram that Kim had accused him of plotting to have her killed.

“YESTERDAY KIM ACCUSED ME OF PUTTING A HIT OUT ON HER,” West wrote in a since-deleted post. He went on to argue that such allegations could “actually get someone locked up.”

At the time, Kim did not confirm or deny West’s claim directly, but she did release a rare public statement criticizing his behavior, saying his “constant need for attacking me in interviews and on social media is actually more hurtful” than anything else.

The Timing of Kim’s Bombshell

Now, nearly four years later, Kim’s confession that someone “extremely close” to her hired a hitman has reignited speculation. While the Season 7 trailer does not name the individual, the fact that Kanye himself once publicly addressed the same accusation makes the overlap hard to ignore.

The footage shows Kim describing her terror: “I am terrified out of my mind.” She later admits she’s “happy it’s over,” suggesting that the threat was resolved – though how, and by whom, remains unclear.

Could It Have Been Kanye?

So far, there’s no evidence that Kanye was the person Kim was referring to. It’s worth noting that Kim has faced numerous stalkers and threats in recent years, including a 2024 incident where she filed for a restraining order against a man who tried to contact her at home.

Still, given Kanye’s own words in 2022 and the deeply fraught history between the former couple, fans are already speculating whether this season of The Kardashians will finally answer the lingering question: did Kim truly believe Kanye wanted her dead, or was the danger coming from somewhere else entirely?

Family on Edge

The trailer also shows the rest of the Kardashian-Jenner clan shaken by the ordeal. Kendall Jenner admits, “Everybody’s kind of on edge,” while Kylie recalls hearing footsteps in her own room, hinting that the family may have been dealing with multiple threats during filming.

What We Know Now

For now, neither Kim nor Kanye has commented on the new trailer. But Hulu promises that Season 7 – premiering October 23 – will shed more light on the terrifying situation.

Until then, the question remains: was Kim’s revelation connected to her infamous feud with Kanye, or is the truth something even darker?

Establishing the mood with dimensional riser and astral bells, MUNZER opens Cold Stone with cerebral, metaphorical lyricism with reference to his lived experience and a past relationship. We immediately connect with the high emotional quotient that transpires, and the authentic depth that MUNZER manifests with his words.

The soundscape is giving an emo-trap energy, reminding us of Kanye West‘s iconic yet underrated album, 808s and Heartbreak. Speaking on the releases, MUNZER confesses, “This song is about my personal experience with a relationship breakup that left me broken. I know of many people who can relate to this song, so it then became a tribute to those who gave their entire heart, and by the end, were left with a cold stone.”

We love the refined use of autotune, and the mix lends itself to a mirror for the emotions that MUNZER is bringing to life with his prose. We learn that Cold Stone was produced with BULLZEYE BEATS producer Johnny BULLZ who decided to utilize the auto-tune sound, whilst MUNZER wanted to bring to life a more organic energy. The balance here feels perfect!

MUNZER, from Mount Druitt in Sydney, is rising fast in hip hop, alternative hip hop, and pop. Influenced by legends like 2Pac, 50 Cent, and Pop Smoke, his sound mixes gritty beats with smooth hooks. Since his debut in 2014, he’s lit up stages at major Sydney events like Blacktown City Council Festivals and Street University, earning a name as a powerful live performer. He’s also made radio appearances, from Sound Cartel in 2016 to Koori Radio in 2023. His 2017 Coast to Coast Live show in Melbourne helped him reach wider audiences.

We have been following the star’s rise, and previously featured his zeitgeist, seductive sound on bass heavy anthem, What’s Your Zodiac Sign, Supernova, and Keep It Real!

For years, there have been hushed conversations and industry whispers about Kanye West’s sexuality – rumours that, for the most part, lived in the speculative corners of the internet. But with the release of his deeply personal and painfully confessional song COUSINS, paired with a now-deleted tweet that reads more like a diary entry than a publicity stunt, Kanye may have confirmed what many long suspected: that he’s been grappling with bisexuality, repressed memory, and the weight of childhood trauma.

The tweet reads:

“This song is called COUSINS about my cousin that’s locked in jail for life for killing a pregnant lady a few years after I told him we wouldn’t ‘look at dirty magazines together’ anymore.

Perhaps in my self-centered mess I felt it was my fault that I showed him those dirty magazines when he was 6 and then we acted out what we saw.

My dad had Playboy magazines but the magazines I found in the top of my mom’s closet were different.

My name is Ye and I sucked my cousin’s dick till I was 14.”

If this reads like a confession, that’s because it is—but it’s also a reckoning. And it’s not simple.

The Trauma Layer

First, there’s the heartbreaking context of childhood sexual exploration rooted in exposure to adult material and possibly abuse. Kanye frames his actions as part of a complex cycle – discovering explicit magazines as a child, acting out what he saw with his cousin, and then later processing the emotional consequences of those moments. These are not just sexual memories. They are traumatic memories, clouded by guilt, confusion, and the burden of secrecy.

The lyric from COUSINS – “That’s when I gave my cousin head” – isn’t offered as braggadocio or shock value. It’s delivered with emotional bluntness, as part of a song that reads like a therapy session. There is no glorification. There is shame, conflict, and a search for truth.

The Question of Sexuality

What Kanye appears to be exploring is not just trauma, but identity – more specifically, how early experiences shaped the lens through which he’s had to understand his own sexuality. The line “I’m not attracted to a man (They thought I was gay)” is revealing. He’s not labeling himself. He’s confronting the confusion. It’s that grey area – the fluidity of sexual experience, the trauma-tangled nature of identity formation – that he seems to be unearthing.

In the past, Kanye has played with gender and sexual norms – his fashion choices, his artistic collaborations, his comments on love and masculinity have often defied traditional boxes. But this feels different. It’s not provocation – it’s vulnerability.

And perhaps that’s why this moment matters so much.

A Public Reckoning in Real Time

This isn’t just Kanye teasing a line or feeding controversy for clout. COUSINS is paired with real-life pain: a cousin in prison for murder, an unresolved sense of guilt about childhood moments, a clear expression of addiction (“Ten Percs to get high”), and suicidal ideation (“pray that I don’t die”). These are not the lyrics of a man trolling for headlines. They’re the lyrics of someone who is either in crisis – or healing, or both.

In a culture that often demands clarity, Kanye is giving us complication. He’s not “coming out” in the traditional sense. There’s no label, no pride flag, no curated roll-out. Instead, there’s pain, nuance, and emotional contradiction. It’s messy. It’s uncomfortable. And it’s real.

Why This Moment Matters

For a Black man – especially one of Kanye’s stature – to speak publicly about same-sex experiences, childhood sexual confusion, and mental health is unprecedented. Hip-hop has long been a space that has silenced or sidelined queer identity, even as it borrows from queer culture. Kanye’s song and tweet don’t just nudge the conversation forward – they detonate it.

It challenges us to think about how sexuality and trauma intersect. About how public figures are allowed, or not allowed, to process those intersections. And about how we, as a culture, often react more viscerally to the disclosure of same-sex experiences than we do to disclosures of violence, addiction, or self-destruction.

Kanye West’s COUSINS is a raw, uncomfortable excavation of memory, identity, and shame. Whether or not he’s “coming out” as bisexual in the traditional sense is less important than what he’s actually doing: breaking silence. About trauma. About sexuality. About the tangled ways our past shapes us.

In a culture that demands perfection or cancellation, Kanye is offering something messier – honesty. It doesn’t come with neat labels or easy takeaways, but it opens the door for deeper conversations about abuse, masculinity, and healing, especially within the Black and hip-hop communities where these discussions are often avoided.

This isn’t a PR move. It’s a reckoning.

And whether you love him or can’t stand him, Ye just gave us something real. Something that might help someone else feel a little less alone.

FKA twigs’ latest music video for Childlike Things has ignited a cultural conversation that extends far beyond its dazzling visuals and avant-garde aesthetic. At the heart of the controversy is North West, the 11-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, whose cameo has sparked a storm of debate about artistic expression, childhood agency, and the relentless tug-of-war between celebrity co-parents.

The video, crafted by the boundary-pushing twigs and playwright Jeremy O. Harris, presents a meta-narrative about creative integrity versus industry demands. FKA twigs, playing an artist fighting to preserve her vision, faces off against a skeptical label executive played by Kevin Smith. North West’s unexpected appearance – rapping in Japanese – becomes the pivotal moment that sways the executive’s opinion, suggesting that the authenticity of the next generation may be the answer to the industry’s age-old struggles.

The Cultural Shockwave: Talent or Tokenism?

North’s inclusion in the video was immediately polarizing. Some hailed her linguistic feat as impressive, while others saw it as a gimmick engineered for viral impact. The fact that North, at such a young age, is already entrenched in high-profile artistic collaborations raises important ethical questions:

Is this a case of a prodigious child being given opportunities to explore her artistry?

Or is it an example of a young girl being absorbed into the celebrity machine before she can fully understand what she’s signing up for?

In an era where TikTok and Instagram have turned childhood into a monetized spectacle, North’s presence in Childlike Things is both a reflection of and a challenge to the norms of modern fame.

Kanye’s Fury: Protection or Possession?

Kanye West, never one to remain silent, reacted with characteristic outrage. Reports suggest he likened Kim Kardashian’s decision to allow North’s involvement to “sex trafficking,” accusing his ex-wife of “pimping out” their daughter for the sake of celebrity currency. This accusation, beyond its inflammatory rhetoric, speaks to a deeper tension within co-parenting dynamics in the age of social media and hyper-visibility.

Kanye’s stance appears to be one of protection, rooted in his longstanding discomfort with the exposure of his children. Yet, given his own history of incorporating North into his music and fashion ventures, his outrage raises another question:

Is Kanye truly concerned about North’s well-being, or is this about control over her image – who gets to decide her trajectory, and whose artistic world she gets to inhabit?

Child Autonomy or Parental Projection?

The debate around North’s participation in Childlike Things is a microcosm of a much larger societal issue: the autonomy of children in the entertainment industry. Historically, child stars have struggled under the weight of expectations and exploitation. From Shirley Temple to Britney Spears, the intersection of youth and fame has been fraught with danger.

North West, born into unimaginable wealth and scrutiny, is in a uniquely complex position. Unlike the child stars of past generations, she isn’t just being groomed by studio executives – she is the product of a media empire built by her own family. The Kardashian brand thrives on visibility, and North’s artistic pursuits cannot be entirely separated from the machinery that made her mother a cultural force.

Yet, there’s also the possibility that North genuinely enjoys these creative endeavors. If she actively wants to be part of these projects, does that invalidate concerns about her being “pimped out”? Where do we draw the line between child empowerment and child exploitation?

The Future of North West: A Cautionary Tale or a New Era of Child Stardom?

The discourse surrounding Childlike Things ultimately transcends the specifics of North’s feature. It forces us to consider the evolving nature of fame, childhood, and parental influence in an age where every moment can be commodified.

If North is indeed an artistic prodigy, does she have the right to step into the spotlight on her own terms? Or is she simply another young celebrity being swept up in an industry that has historically chewed up and spit out child performers?

What’s clear is that the battle over North West – her image, her future, and her autonomy – will continue to unfold, not just between her parents but within the broader cultural conversation about what it means to grow up famous in the digital age.

If this track has not solidified all of the haters/doubters’ faith in Kanye West as a global music influencer on a rather unparalleled level, then I don’t know what else to say really. Hopefully y’all know the story – Panda by Desiigner (with two i’s) was featured as a sample on The Life of Pablo (Pt 2). Everyone thought it was Future for about five minutes – understandably so, but when the world got a hold of the full edit of the track, Panda – everything changed. It became a global number one, a club and cult smash and now has a video with a cameo of the one and only Mr West, because duh he’s like “I made this happen”. Anyway, here is the video with “creative” by Kanye West and Paul Geusebroek.

Desiigner’s performance in the video is by far the highlight – with facial expressions that are unique but also set the tone for the song perfectly. You can watch the video on TIDAL or Pitchfork, annoying, but yeah.

In a somewhat sporadic annual tradition, I have been wanting to share my top ten tracks of the year, because let’s be real, 2015 has definitely had a somewhat consistent sound which has resulted in some of, what will end up being, my favourite tracks of all time. Granted this might be in part to some of the memories associated with them, but I’m talking pretty epic stuff – e.g. I was on the top of a fair few of the tallest building in the world this year – thank you Toronto and Dubai – and the memory association that these hold are pretty awesome on a personal level. HOWEVER, on a completely critical and unbiased way, you’ll see running thematic trends in these tracks both sonically and lyrically so I guess we can also call this a somewhat curated playlist, which y’all should go an enjoy on my SoundCloud.

For those of you who follow me on Snapchat, this list will be of little/no surprise to you. So here goes. The top three are in order and the remaining seven are all even with a couple of super fucking honourable mentions at the bottom.

1. Lana Del Rey – High By The Beach

From the moment this leaked in HQ to this day, the track has resonated with me, for a number of reasons (cc Teddy Sinclair, Illyse Singer, Willy Moon and a beach in New York about two weeks before the track came out). But also, the video and the message behind it – the strength of lyrical message making somewhat of a change from Ultraviolence, the past reference to “lights, camera, accion”, the rebellion, honesty and openness opening us up to a new era from Lana – something almost more tech-experimentative which fits with where she is at culturally right now. Oh and if I was doing an album list then Honeymoon would be at the top along with Grimes’ Art Angels.

2. Future – Thought It Was A Drought

Angel Haze introduced me to this track from Future, the week that the album dropped. Again, we were in New York at her apartment and we consistently play it on loop. Sonically, the thickness and depth of the track, again coupled with totally rebellious lyrics nailed if for me. It’s been a staple both through meme value and personally with my friends ever since. Literally cannot wait for the video to drop which is co-directed by A$AP Ferg.

3. Travis Scott – 3500

Current Rihanna controversy aside (this is not a speculation site!), from the entire Rodeo album (and Deluxe) this is 100% my favourite track. No explanation as to why – I mean it is produced by Metro Boomin, Zaytoven, Mike Dean, Million $ Mano and Allen Ritter (Metro and Allen also produced Thought It Was A Drought) so sonically it is completely in line with what I fell in love with this year.

Here’s my Spotify playlist for the full list of ten which also features REALiTI from Grimes (after it had been reworked from the demo), The Hills from The Weeknd, Music To Watch Boys To by Lana Del Rey, King Kunta by Kendrick Lamar, Hands To Myself by Selena Gomez (she had one of the best albums of the year and the first three singles are beyond compare), All Day by Kanye West (duh) and Bitch Better Have My Money by Rihanna.

On an equally interesting note, onto the honourable mentions. It was really hard because I wanted to include two Grimes tracks on the original list but REALiTI trumped this by a traction because I think it has more longevity and slower burnout, but Venus Fly featuring Janelle Monae is where Grimes goes the hardest on Art Angels. What she delivers is pretty fucking unparalleled – harder than any EDM track out there right now and also more beautifully executed than anything I have ever heard on a dance level in the last ten years.

Second honourable mention to my girl Alo Lee – for her entire EP Twice Burned and the full three-track produced by Liam Howe (Adele, FKA, Lana) and Exmoor Emperor, plus all of the SoundCloud content which has been incredibly strong – from covers of The Weeknd, Rihanna and Drake to original content like Blindsight with Lox Chatterbox and Blood with Su Na. Enjoy!

A couple of months ago, I had the incredible honour of shooting and hanging out with one of London’s finest young creatives, Dan Ellyot. There is something so wonderful about working with your peers creatively and co-producing spontaneous content birthed from ideas shared together.

So right now as I type this, I am texting Dan about what we should call this editorial. We just settled on Hephaestus Reforged – Greek God of Fire plus the idea of phoenix rising (I was leaning towards Kill vs Maim ℅ Grimes, but this works much better!). It certainly fits for where I am right now creatively, and thanks Dan for keeping the title refined at least!

I hope you like the images as much as I do. Dan Ellyot is a very real talent. Make sure to follow his incredible work on Instagram.
