<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Drawing us in with a fiercely bold drum intro and a melodic guitar energy, <strong>KaiserKillers</strong> open the <strong>25 Mix</strong> of <strong><em>Love Conquers All</em></strong> with poetic prowess and what appears to be a message of love energy and oneness&#8230; except it is based in the real world! </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The lyrics &#8220;Love conquers all, except in the real world baby&#8221; flip the classic romantic and holistic ideal on its head. The original phrase, which is more often than not used in poetry and literature as an almost spiritual bypassing of reality, paints love as a force so powerful it can overcome any adversity.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But by adding &#8220;&#8230;except in the real world,&#8221; the lyric introduces a very poignant contrast between idealism and reality. It suggests that while love might be celebrated in stories, movies, and dreams, actual life is messier. In the real world, love often faces challenges it can&#8217;t fix. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We appreciate this zeigeist message and the re-emergence of the song for a 2025 audience, as let&#8217;s be &#8220;real&#8221;, the state of the world today certainly does not reflect the old adage as it was once intended to be understood. The band tells us, &#8220;The song was crafted around the chaos of Brexit and attempts to bring together the camaraderie of friends and allies.&#8221; </p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="500" height="500" data-id="48182" src="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/LCA_cover_500_72.jpg?resize=500%2C500&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-48182" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/LCA_cover_500_72.jpg?w=500&amp;ssl=1 500w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/LCA_cover_500_72.jpg?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/LCA_cover_500_72.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/LCA_cover_500_72.jpg?resize=1536%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/LCA_cover_500_72.jpg?resize=2048%2C2048&amp;ssl=1 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px" /></figure>
</figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The song was first released in 2021, but the 2025 edit has a fresh new punch. The band elaborates, &#8220;We call our sound PowerPopPunk! Played at an energetic pace and with joyful, exuberant melodies.&#8221; With reference to the unique production, they add, &#8220;The percussive intro to the song was created with a series of handclaps by the studio janitor and Stix playing a shoe box full of dried peas.&#8221;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Speaking on their influences, the talented Colchester based group tells us, &#8220;Put<strong> The</strong> <strong>Beatles</strong> and <strong>The</strong> <strong>Byrds</strong> in a pot with <strong>Blondie</strong>, <strong>Elvis</strong> <strong>Costello</strong> and the <strong>Small</strong> <strong>Faces</strong>, give it a right royal stir, infuse it with<strong> The</strong> <strong>Smiths</strong> and the <strong>Pixies</strong> and the signature sound is right there on the plate for all to savour&#8230;&#8221;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We love what <strong>KaiserKillers</strong> are creating, and are grateful for this fresh mix for what seems to be a message that we are living again and again as a society on loop. We have added the <strong>25 Mix </strong>of <strong><em>Love Conquers All</em></strong> to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of <strong>KaiserKillers</strong>!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We recently featured <a href="https://karlismyunkle.com/2024/09/12/honey-by-kaiserkillers-shines-with-punk-romance-and-conscious-escapism/"><strong><em>Honey</em></strong> by <strong>KaiserKillers</strong>, which brought to life the notion of punk romance with conscious escapism</a>, so when we found out that the band was back with <strong><em>Heavenly in Black</em></strong>, we couldn&#8217;t wait to listen and share our experience.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Opening with a dimensional an almost psychedelic adjacent classic rock energy with compressed vocals, <strong>KaiserKillers</strong> share situational yet metaphorical prose as they draw us back into their sonic universe. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We deeply connect with the timeless energy and repeated notions, that feel almost akin to a mantra. The vocal switch up is genius, giving us a transportive energy before returning to form before an out of this world guitar solo that sends us astral. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The song is about a girl named <strong>Beverly</strong>, who looked stunning in black. The band wrote it after Beverly complained that her name was never featured in songs. The lyrics reflect a recurring theme in KaiserKillers&#8217; music &#8211; a nostalgic remembrance of a girl that lead singer, Johnny, once knew. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="1020" height="680" src="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/smallghost.jpg?resize=1020%2C680&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-47249" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/smallghost.jpg?resize=1020%2C680&amp;ssl=1 1020w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/smallghost.jpg?resize=632%2C422&amp;ssl=1 632w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/smallghost.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/smallghost.jpg?w=1204&amp;ssl=1 1204w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>KaiserKillers</strong> consists of <strong>Johnny Zero</strong>, <strong>Cristi</strong> <strong>Mac</strong> <strong>Seáin</strong>, and <strong>Stix</strong> <strong>McIntosh</strong>, who combine their influences of punk, mod, and classic rock bands like the <strong>Buzzcocks, Blondie, The Beatles, </strong>and<strong> The Smiths</strong> to manifest their sound. For the song, Johnny added a unique touch to the recording by creating a metallic ‘ring’ sound using a spanner suspended on a wire and a toffee hammer. We absolutely love details like this! </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We learn that&nbsp;<em><strong>Heavenly in Black</strong></em>&nbsp;was recorded at <strong>Strawberry Field</strong> in Colchester and mixed by the brilliant <strong>Francis</strong> <strong>Gorini</strong> at London Mastering Studio. It is no surprise that <strong>KaiserKillers</strong> have already received airplay on stations like Boogaloo Radio, Amazing Radio, and Punk Rock Demonstration.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The band had the chance to share a cute anecdote with us and mentioned that during an outdoor gig, their drummer&#8217;s hair caught fire when he stashed a lit cigarette behind his ear &#8211; luckily, a half glass of beer saved the day!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Naturally, we love what <strong>KaiserKillers</strong> are creating, and have added <em><strong>Heavenly in Black</strong></em>&nbsp;to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the band and anticipate future releases! </p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify wp-embed-aspect-21-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="Spotify Embed: Honey (One Day in Atlantic City)" style="border-radius: 12px" width="100%" height="152" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture" loading="lazy" src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/7y1DfgpmDluq10ZO0SD8v6?si=0803801242374dbb&#038;utm_source=oembed"></iframe>
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>KaiserKillers</strong>&#8216; new single,&nbsp;<em><strong>Honey (One Day in Atlantic City)</strong></em>, bursts with vibrant energy, fusing a bright pop-punk frequency with an introspective narrative. From the first moments, the song hooks us with dynamic, textured percussion and a compelling bassline, setting the stage for a cerebral electric guitar that drives the track forward with finesse. The interplay between rhythm and melody is tight and polished, yet retains the raw edge that defines the band&#8217;s sound.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The song’s lyrical content takes a contemplative dive into themes of escapism and fleeting moments, all while encapsulating the atmosphere of a road trip to Atlantic City. Hooks like<em> &#8220;Reality can be what it seems&#8230; I&#8217;m standing on the edge of a dream&#8230;&#8221;</em> reflect a poetic introspection, turning a love song into something more profound. It’s as if we are swept into the whirlwind of emotions, the glowing turnpike, and the promise of adventure. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Johnny Zero</strong>’s vocal timbre stands out for its emotive pull, blending seamlessly with the rich layers of sound. The production &#8211; handled in part by <strong>Francis Gorini </strong>at London Mastering Studio &#8211; makes the most of the intricate guitar work and percussion, which includes unconventional elements like <strong>Andy DeForest</strong>&#8216;s playful contribution of jumping on a breadboard for a glam rock touch. It’s this quirky, creative flair that sets <strong>KaiserKillers </strong>apart, injecting fun into their signature sound while still maintaining their thoughtful, lyrical depth.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="1020" height="1020" src="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/honey_cover3000.jpg?resize=1020%2C1020&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-44330" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/honey_cover3000-scaled.jpg?resize=1020%2C1020&amp;ssl=1 1020w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/honey_cover3000-scaled.jpg?resize=632%2C632&amp;ssl=1 632w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/honey_cover3000-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C768&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/honey_cover3000-scaled.jpg?resize=100%2C100&amp;ssl=1 100w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/honey_cover3000-scaled.jpg?resize=1536%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1536w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/honey_cover3000-scaled.jpg?resize=2048%2C2048&amp;ssl=1 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The song showcases influences from melodic punk icons like <strong>Buzzcocks </strong>and <strong>Blondie</strong>, while also hinting at the <strong>Beatles</strong>&#8216; harmonies and storytelling style. The power of the song lies in its ability to be both light and deep &#8211; packing in bright, feel-good riffs alongside reflective prose, with each note contributing to the narrative.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The band’s chemistry, built over decades from Huddersfield to Bristol and beyond, is palpable in <em><strong>Honey</strong></em>. Their shared history brings an organic cohesion to the track, giving it a well-worn yet refreshing feel, as if <strong>KaiserKillers </strong>were indeed thawed out from a cryogenic trance to deliver guitar magic once more. Whether it’s a result of “strumming and getting lucky,” as the band jokes, or careful craftsmanship,&nbsp;<strong><em>Honey</em>&nbsp;</strong>is an exciting, high-energy addition to their discography.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It’s a track that feels both familiar and novel &#8211; a testament to KaiserKillers&#8217; ability to blend nostalgia with fresh sonic ideas. Fans of melodic punk and retro power-pop will be hooked, as&nbsp;<strong><em>Honey</em>&nbsp;</strong>delivers both the thrills of a road trip romance and the charm of a band that doesn’t take themselves too seriously, even when delivering seriously good music.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We have added <strong><em>Honey </em></strong>to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TRIPPY and TIMELESS playlists, whilst we continue to explore the wider discography of <strong>KaiserKillers</strong>, including <strong><em>Love Conquers All, </em></strong>and <strong><em>Saints Preserve Us!</em></strong></p>
