Establishing the mood with ethereal ad libs and an intimate acoustic guitar soundscape, just Min open Scars with the contemplative prose, “if we never try, what are we doing, why are we wasting time, do I chase you in every life?”. Something that we have come to love from just Min is his deep authenticity, and Scars is yet another example of this.

He reassures us with the line, “It’s ok to be scared…” and reminds us that our scars are what make us and that perfection lies in our imperfections. He is a soulful creator who understands the fragility of humanity and reality.

A heartfelt tribute to unconditional love, Scars celebrates the beauty of embracing someone completely – flaws, past wounds, and all. Following the success of just Min’s alt-pop anthem High Speed and the self-produced single Self Medicate, the song further highlights the artist’s evolving sound and artistry.

Speaking on the release, Korean-born just Min confesses, “I was initially going to name my debut EP after this song; that’s how much this song means to me. I wrote Scars on the guitar before any production and it just felt special.”

The talented multi-disciplinary artist continues, “It’s also one of the first songs I ever fully produced. At the time, I was writing a lot of dark and sad music and I wanted to create something healing instead. That was my intention with Scars; it ended up as a song telling someone who doesn’t see their own worth that they are loved exactly as they are. We’re all carrying things from our past, but that doesn’t mean we don’t deserve love. There’s something truly beautiful about loving someone through your own personal troubles, even if you’ve both been through some dark stuff in the past.”

“I love you even with your scars…” is such poignant message and artist ethos, it is no surprise that Min wanted to name his record after the song. It’s something wholesome, that in this day and age of sought perfectionism, we can relish in.

Fans of Joji and Frank Ocean will be able to connect with just Min, and it is no surprise that he has been supported by Wonderland, Notion, and Melodic Magazine to name a few. We have added Scars to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream just Min‘s growing discography including the entirety of the Scars EP!

just Min’s lates opus, High Speed, is a sonic and emotional journey that feels both timeless and modern, an alt-pop anthem crafted with cinematic precision. From its opening moments, the track draws us into an immersive soundscape driven by a transcendental guitar that sets the tone for what unfolds as a deeply personal and universally resonant narrative. With layered production and commanding vocals, High Speed embodies the exhilarating yet painful process of breaking free, a theme that carries an undeniable emotional weight throughout the song.

The Korean-born artist’s latest release, the third single from his highly anticipated debut EP, solidifies his place as a standout in the alt-pop scene. Written and mixed entirely by just Min, the song is a testament to his relentless pursuit of authenticity and his ability to translate personal experiences into art that resonates deeply. At its core, High Speed captures the turbulence of navigating deceit and toxic connections, offering us a cathartic experience of cutting ties and finding liberation in the chaos. With lyrics that cut to the bone, “Days I’ve spent passing by / All this time living in lies / But I can’t seem to look past your eyes / Gotta cut you off, I don’t even wanna hear you talk”, just Min paints a vivid picture of emotional struggle and hard-won clarity.

The track’s cinematic energy and blockbuster-worthy chorus elevate it beyond a traditional breakup anthem. It’s a song that balances raw vulnerability with a defiant sense of freedom, made all the more compelling by just Min’s vocal performance. His stunning range and sublime timbre bring the lyrics to life, oscillating between gut-wrenching emotion and ethereal lightness. The chorus, “Run away from you at high speed / I don’t know where we’ll go / No you never really liked me / Now I know, oh for sure,” lands with an assertive force that mirrors the emotional liberation the song embodies. It’s a moment of reckoning, a triumphant release that feels as exhilarating as it is poignant.

Reflecting on the creation of High Speed, just Min reveals the chaotic backdrop against which the song came to life. Written during a period of personal and professional upheaval – moving apartments, starting his final year at university, and working solo on his debut project—the song became a grounding force. “After I made the initial demo of High Speed, I knew it was going to be special. It emerged during a chaotic time… Amidst the chaos, it became a reflection on a painful past relationship. Ironically, despite its name, High Speed reminds me to live in the moment and prioritize myself,” he shares. This duality, of speed and stillness, chaos and clarity, is woven into the very fabric of the song, making it as introspective as it is explosive.

Critics and fans alike have been quick to recognize just Min’s originality and genre-defying sound. Publications such as Wonderland and Notion have highlighted his ability to craft music that feels fresh and deeply personal, describing his work as “healing” and “utterly refreshing.” High Speed continues this trajectory, showcasing just Min’s evolution as an artist who blends cinematic soundscapes with raw emotional depth. It’s a song that resonates not only for its assertive message but for its poetic nuance and authentic storytelling.

With High Speed, just Min has created a track that is both deeply introspective and universally relatable. It’s a reminder of the power of music to articulate the most complex emotions, turning pain into beauty and uncertainty into art. This isn’t just a standout single; it’s a defining moment in just Min’s artistic journey, a song that cements his place in the alt-pop world while leaving an indelible mark on anyone who listens. We have added High Speed to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream just Min’s wider discography, including Cruel!

In the emotional labyrinth of contemporary indie folk, few artists navigate its winding paths with the grace and vulnerability of just Min. With his new single Cruel, he unveils yet another chapter of his deeply personal narrative, drenched in pain and self-reflection. This track stands as a poignant reflection of a young artist who has cultivated his craft with a blend of raw lyricism and evocative vocals, pushing the boundaries of what it means to make music that speaks to the heart. Cruel is a gut-wrenching exploration of betrayal, love’s bitter aftermath, and the fragile humanity that emerges from it.

From the moment the textured percussion count-in fades into the opening strums of an intimate acoustic guitar, Cruel plants its feet in melancholic soil. The song’s minimalistic arrangement, centred around soft, fingerpicked guitar and subtle percussion, creates a soundscape that feels both haunting and deeply introspective. It’s the kind of sonic landscape that invites us to close our eyes and drift into the vulnerability of just Min’s world. There’s something in the way the simplicity of the music mirrors the stark clarity of the emotions on display. Nothing feels overdone, nothing is rushed. The sparse arrangement serves as a delicate stage for the weight of the words to settle, unencumbered.

The opening lyric, “Last time we spoke was years ago now / Remember running down hotel hallways, / Your smile could never make me frown…”, immediately sets a tone of nostalgia, reminding us of the vulnerability we’ve all experienced when love holds sway over our better judgment. There is something so universally human about this recollection, about the sting of a memory that once felt comforting now twisted by time and betrayal. just Min’s voice, tender yet powerful, carries the listener through the landscape of this lost love. He sings with a vulnerability that doesn’t beg for sympathy but instead invites empathy, drawing you closer into his emotional sphere. It’s the kind of vocal quality that recalls Elliott Smith in its quiet intensity, effortless yet aching with each note.

But Cruel is not just another breakup song. just Min’s writing elevates it to a place of nuanced reflection on how love and betrayal are not opposing forces, but rather co-conspirators in the heartbreak that follows. He conveys how the emotional aftermath of such experiences can be just as cruel as the initial blow. As he reflects on the wounds of his past, we see that Cruel is as much a song about self-deception and denial as it is about hurt. The songwriter writes, “But even after their betrayal, I caught myself making excuses for them, still too in love to let go.” The confession here is not just about romantic heartbreak; it’s about the psychological dance we all do when faced with the pull of unresolved feelings. The betrayal is a rupture, but the inability to move on is a quiet self-inflicted torment that resonates with anyone who’s ever been held captive by the remnants of love.

The track’s emotional core reaches its peak in the cathartic chorus, where just Min’s voice, already rich with emotion, rises in an almost defiant cry: “But I was just a fool / Never met someone as cruel as you…” It’s in this moment that the song’s emotional tension is fully realized, as Min confronts the painful truth of his feelings. There’s a vulnerability here, yes, but also a strength, an acknowledgment of self-deception followed by the acceptance of betrayal. It’s a brutal, honest admission, and yet, there’s a sense of release in it, as though the weight of unspoken truths has finally been lifted.

Cruel speaks not only to the personal nature of Min’s experiences but to the universal resonance of emotional turmoil that anyone who’s loved and been let down can understand. The song’s emotional depth is paired with a remarkable vocal range, one that can move from hushed, intimate moments to heart-wrenching declarations with seamless ease. The stark simplicity of the arrangement allows Min’s voice to remain at the forefront, and it’s clear that this is a song where every note, every lyric, was carefully chosen to encapsulate the feeling of betrayal and the mourning that comes after.

Perhaps what sets Cruel apart as an indie folk ballad is its genre-defying nature. While steeped in folk traditions, Min’s sound is a tapestry of influences, subtly woven together. As mentioned by Notion Magazine, he effortlessly blurs the lines between R&B, alt-R&B, and indie pop, making him one of the most versatile voices of his generation. just Min’s ability to bridge genres is not merely technical, it is deeply tied to his ability to channel raw emotion into any musical form that best serves the narrative. This versatility is evident in the haunting subtleties of Cruel, which feels both timeless and modern.

There is a certain alchemy at play in just Min’s work, he is a master of blending raw emotion with the soundscape that best reflects it. Melodically enchanting yet lyrically profound, Min continues to prove that he is an artist unafraid to strip away all pretense to reveal the depths of his humanity. Cruel is both an act of catharsis and an invitation for us to examine our own relationships with love, betrayal, and healing. It’s a song that resonates deeply because it taps into the truth that love, for all its beauty, often carries the most cruel lessons.

In Cruel, just Min reaffirms his place as one of the most compelling voices in indie music today, a songwriter whose artistry lies not only in his technical prowess but in his ability to capture and convey the messy, beautiful, and heartbreaking moments that make us human. This track isn’t just another song; it’s a testament to the kind of artist he’s becoming, one who is unafraid to bare his soul and offer it up for others to feel.
