We previously featured Joe Hodgson for his his exquisite guitar skills and genre expansive nature on The Grass Is Greener, and Shapeshifting, so when we heard that the star was back with You I Think Of, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Drawing us in with a sublime and emotive strings arrangement with a delicate series of intricately performed guitar riffs, expanding with textured drums and bass, Joe Hodgson opens You I Think Of with instrumental mastery and a cinematic nuance.

The opus expands with charm and elegance, tapping into our heart’s centre with the production, reminding us of a film score. The soaring strings performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra are transcendental and Joe’s guitar performance is simply out of this world.

Speaking on the track, Joe confesses, “In early 2021, I was working on an acoustic arrangement of the Irish folk song, Molly Malone. It’s the unofficial anthem of Dublin City, one of my favourite places in the world. But while I was working on the track, I started envisaging this story in my head of meeting and falling in love with a woman from Dublin. As the story gathered pace in my mind, I started playing melodies of my own over the same underlying chord sequence, and before I realised I had a complete piece of music composed. It had a beginning, a middle, and, thanks to the Molly Malone refrain, an end too.”

In order to fully enhance the melodies of his new song, Joe chose to incorporate strings and reached out to the Czech Philharmonic. He describes the recording session in Prague as “a spine-tingling moment — the most unforgettable experience of the entire album.”

But the story didn’t end there. Joe eventually met his dream woman from Dublin, and in July 2022, they got married. Most poignantly, she walked down the aisle to the string arrangement of You I Think Of.

We love how this journey has proved that manifestation is real, and that Joe Hodgson has not only demonstrated that creating your own universe through art can amplify one’s connection with Source, and in turn allow us to live the life we foresee for ourselves. You I Think Of is set to feature on Joe’s forthcoming album, Fields Of Redemption, due for release on June 20th, 2025!

There is a cinematic allure to the composition, and the melodic narrative of the electric guitar feels like a multi-faceted protagonists emotive journey with an almost self-realized nature. The Grass Is Greener feels perfect for the score of a romantic comedy, but also there is no doubt that Joe’s skillset on the guitar is stadium worthy.

The A-side also comes with an accompanying track, Shapeshifting, which taps into a more psychedelic edge with an 8-bit sound that feels more video game friendly with a Latin and Eastern twist. it is high octane and trippy with finger work that is so fast that it almost feels surreal! This could well see the light of day on an upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie!

We appreciate Irish guitarist Joe Hodgson‘s genre expansive nature, and learn that Joe’s mantra is “words can lie, but my guitar can’t” – there is no arguing with that as his guitar work is nothing short of genius.

When it comes to references, Joe cites Thin Lizzy as inspiration, which we can feel manifest on the two tracks, but there is no doubt that Joe is creating a sonic universe of his own, following his four year hiatus travelling!

Joe confesses that The Grass Is Greener is “the story of the twists and turns we all experience in the search for inner peace and happiness”, and Shapeshifting explores “the chameleon that is in all of us”.
