Setting the scene with pulsing drums and percussion details, with an immersive and dynamic synthscape, jaxsen opens his latest single, impose with atmospheric and introspective vocals singing, “My mind’s never been my friend and though I’ve tried, I forget who I am…”

The song expands into bedroom pop, chill wave hybrid sound with the theme of “feeling bad for feeling bad”.

Speaking on the depth of impose and it’s lyricism, jaxsen says, “It’s [about] the fear of your own negative thoughts finding its way to exit your body and weighing down everyone around you. The song is a plea for forgiveness.”

jaxsen cites Dandelion Hands, Mount Eerie fka The Microphones and Lorde as influences, which we can hear come through in his immersive sound, but it is clear that he is carving a path of his own.

Elaborating on the creative process of impose, jaxsen says “The song was first started at the beginning of quarantine. My brother and I would go to Chick-fi-a every week together, and it was always a good time. But one day I was feeling a bit down in the dumps and I knew he could tell. And I felt bad for making someone else have to deal with my problems. Then the song sat a bit dormant for a year until I went into an intensive outpatient program in November 2021. With a new found drive, I was able to finish the song.”
