Drawing us in with an electric guitar soundscape, Heyzeus open Little Big House with a grunge-adjacent energy with a hint of nostalgia as we experience the lyrics, “I don’t mind anymore, move on over and close the door, set me free, memories, I’m crossing over to insanity…”

We are immediately captivated by the metaphorical depth and poetic prowess that their prose manifests. The nods to the 90s are super welcome. It allows us to reminisce but feels fresh at the same time – laced with a high emotional quotient that feels like movie-like escapism at a time when we need it the most.

The instrumental performances are masterful, the concept of the song is designed to capture “the tension between freedom and instability on the road”. The band cite “the rawness of Nirvana, the groove of Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the lyrical bite of Stereophonics” as influences, which we can definitely feel come through with the piece, especially the Nirvana vibes.

There is depth to what is being created here, and an unrivalled authenticity. It’s nice to have influences that are brought to life in such a real manner. We learn that the song was written in a beach shack in Cleveland, Australia during a two-year global busking journey. This is further magnified in the accompanying music video to the song where we really get to feel the soul of the artists/

Heyzeus confess, “We were couch-surfing and busking around the world. We finally found a cool place to live before being kicked out of Australia”.

The drum work by Jessica is exquisite – she is a force to be reckoned with and it is no surprise that the self-taught artiste is one of the most-followed female drummers online with 368K Instagram followers, 50K+ YouTube subs, and over 70 million video views. “We’ve done everything ourselves,” says Jess. “Just us, a drum kit, a guitar, and a lot of passion.”

The guitar solos are literally sublimely transcendental, and the overarching sentiment that Heyzeus manifests with the song has us in our feels, almost in tears to be honest. The cinematic vibe that they evoke makes the song perfect for massive Hollywood synch deals – perhaps a series like Sirens on Netflix or an upcoming coming of age story.

We are glad to know that Heyzeus have built a 700K+ strong global following, working with Premier Drums, Warner Records, and have recently caught the attention of Vicky Hamilton (former manager of Guns N’ Roses and Mötley Crüe), who’s now helping develop their US live debut!
