Establishing the mood with cerebral vocal design and a textured, breakbeat energy with astral synth frequencies, M3L opens Hate Me with subversion and a relatable concept. The opus expands with a whirring bassline to take us on a dynamic and dimensional journey through the introspective mind of the artist.

There is no doubt that Hate Me would be perfect for a multitude of sync placements, notably a TV show like Euphoria in a scene that represents the internal anguish of the concept of the track. The futuristic vocals are sublime, they feels spacey and progressive, unique in timbre and bring to life the nuanced message of the song in a refined manner.

The production of Hate Me is cerebral to its core, the conceptual risers coupled with the dancefloor ready ferocity of the main body of the track result in a cohesive and trippy tapestry of sound. There are psychedelic notions at play infused with industrial and euphoric vibes. The middle eight with glitched vocals and an almost meditative moment, which feels warm and immersive is genius, before a final and boundless reprise.

Speaking on the release, M3L, who hails from Amsterdam, confesses, “I wanted to bring back the warehouse feel, give people the feeling something epic is happening [and] give them something refreshing. The sample is an old recording of me singing, I’d like to think everyone can have their on perspective on what it means, but in my head it’s about: Hating on the thing you actually need. Which fits in with the way I feel about how the scene is acting right now.”

On his influences, he adds, “I’m influenced by bigger artists like Kettama, really driving those emotional sounds to the dancefloor, whilst keeping it groovy, but also smaller artists like Megra, villager and 33below have been impacting my work.”

We learn that Hate Me was recorded and produced in M3L‘s personal studio, and he premiered the track at the iconic ADE (Amsterdam Dance Event). As a side note, we also LOVE the single artwork which reminds us of a seminal scene in Gregg Araki‘s film, Nowhere!
