We are hypnotized by the soundscape that the duo from Newport News in Virginia have created – darker than their previous releases, albeit sonically in line with the Hailing Ishimura signature.

Bold electric guitar takes on the role of the primary protagonist, whilst the attention to detail in the sonic landscape is refined, giving us a cerebral tapestry that we cannot get enough of.

The opus strips down only to build back up with high notes that take us through to the finale of the song. Familiar melodies reappear and the drums become more present before We Did It To Survive fades out.

We learn that We Did It To Survive finds the adventurers in the universe of Hailing Ishimura at their most desperate. The duo tell us, “They are dead in the water and they have to make hard decisions. The vibe of the track embodies this completely. It’s dark and brooding, but light at times.”

Dom Hopson and Chris True met through their wives, who met in middle school, and confess that before they were a band, they were a family. We feel that cohesive energy in their output and appreciate the backstory.

The duo tell us, “It’s heavier than anything we have done to date and it was an absolute joy to compose as well as perform.” They add, “This track needed to be dark to help convey this part of the story that we are trying to tell on our album. We leaned into heavier tones to help create the vibe we were looking for.”

Establishing the mood with a celestial riser and guitar detailing, we are immediately mesmerized by Hailing Ishimura‘s latest single If You Get This Follow Our Beacon.

The composition expands with a luscious guitar soundscape with dimensional bass and exquisite, immersive synth production. The duo, comprised of Christopher True and Dom Hopson, bring together their collective energy to deliver an enigmatic and meditative opus.

Speaking on the concept of If You Get This Follow Our Beacon, Hailing Ishimura tell us, “The title actually came first. We developed a story and outlined it. The outline became the song titles, therefore the title influenced the mood. The chords that make up the intro were heavily influenced by Taking Back Sunday’s Cute Without The ‘E’ (Cut From The Team).“

Hailing Ishimura was formed in an old Pepsi Bottling Factory in December 2021. They tells us that they “came together to tell a space adventure through instrumentals”, and we appreciate that much needed vibe.

The rising duo cite Coheed & Cambria, The Beatles, If These Trees Could Talk, Red Sparowes, Pink Floyd, Brand New, The Early November, Lamb of God and David Bowie as some of their influences, although it is clear that they are creating a universe of their own.

Hailing Ishimura elaborate that “If You Get This, Follow Our Beacon is the bookend to our album. The adventurers of our story have been through hell. They are exhausted and approaching death. In that instant, they find what they had been searching for and press the beacon to send a message home.”
