James Franco for Dazed & Confused: Visionaries

Every so often there is one of those magazine covers that no matter who the subject is, you wish that you had been part of the creative process. Here’s the latest. James Franco by Josh Olins and Robbie Spencer for the December issue of Dazed & Confused. The issue is titled Visionaries and showcases a selection of 50 super high profile multi-platform creatives including Björk, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Kim Jones, Bart Hess, Megaforce, Austin Lynch, Tabor Robak, Nic Hamilton Maja Borg, Béla Tarr, Kenneth Anger and Jonas Akerlund each taking over Dazed Digital’s video section for a week at a time, premiering their own original work alongside newly commissioned films from their favourite artists. Granted there are tonnes of other creatives that could have been featured, but everything has limits.

The shirt featured on the cover is Prada, the silk tunic from within the editorial is Gucci.

Dazed’s new generation of video launches on 18 November.

Just over a month ago, a set of Mert & Marcus images for the Gucci AW11 campaign were released. They were amazing, but it was in the midst of about six other Mert & Marcus campaigns/editorials that surfaced around the same time, so I wanted to wait before the video (also directed by the duo) came to light. Here it is showcasing Frida Giannini’s “dramatic dresses and exotic accessories”.

exhibition: kyoto and florence together by gucci

To celebrate its 90th anniversary and honour the connection between the brand’s birth city, Florence, and its sister city Kyoto, Gucci is launching a very exiting exhibition this summer. The brand has partnered with world renowned Japanese painter Mr. Hiroshi Senju to curate a series of installations in Japan of unique and coveted pieces from Gucci’s Historical Archive at the Golden Temple “Rokuon-ji”, until July 13th. masters of style: celebrating the stories behind italian fashion

This summer, grazie a Peroni Nastro Azzurro (pioneers in Italian cultural collaborations) – to tie in with the 150th anniversary of Italy as a unified nation – Somerset House will be putting on an exhibition in partnership with six globally renowned Italian fashion houses – Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Ferragamo, Gucci, Missoni and Prada.

Curated by the brilliant Colin McDowell, each of the fashion houses has selected key images from their collections and campaign archives which they feel most reflect their unique approach to Italian style. The exhibition opens this Friday until 14 August from 10.00 to 18.00 daily with late night openings until 21.00 on Thursdays. bat for lashes + friendly fires strangelove covers for gucci (free download)

You might have noticed the Bat For Lashes and Friendly Fires covers of Depeche Mode’s Strangelove as the soundtrack to the Gucci Guilty for Him and Her campaigns, respectively. It turns out that the tracks were created especially for Gucci and the brand is providing them for free download on their YouTube channel to support the launch of the fragrance modelled by Chris Evans and Evan Rachel Wood. Definitely worth a listen.
