Establishing the mood with a cerebral synthscape with astral riffs and choral vocals, intertwined with ad-lib vocalizations, Jenica opens Grey with subversion and dimensionality as she shares a high concept, yet reflective universe.

We appreciate the cohesive ebbs and flows between ethereal vocals and assertive rap segments. The track feels empowering and we are obsessed with the metaphorical baddie-energy that manifests. The production is experimental, as is the vocal design with panning moments. The attention to detail is sublime.

Speaking on the concept of Grey, Jenica confesses, “This release describes a city girl who is chic, bold and carries a lot of personality. The is not aimed at anyone in particular but rather at every girl because realistically, every girl is stunning.”

Jenica elaborates, “Hence why I named the song Grey, because of how easy it is for a diamond to not shine through in a crowd full of diamonds. However, upon deeper inspection, there is never a dull moment in their company.” There is no doubt that Jenica is the master of her own design. She adds, “It is not inspired by any artist in particular but I’d say my musical aesthetic tends to match Remi Wolf and Ashnikko.” Fans of PAULA T would also vibe to this, and we could imagine Jenica performing at SUBCULTURE in LA. Grey also has the potential to lock in a plethora of sync placements, maybe an episode of Euphoria on HBO, Industry, or The Beauty on FX.

We love the aesthetic the come to life with the track – Sin City, being an industrial baddie with heels, grey and silver everything, and a digicam. It’s hard not to fall in love with the character of Grey, and in turn, Jenica. The finale is in Spanish, “Tu eres mi corazon…” croons Jenica over psychedelic snares and vocal synths as the track comes to a close.

On her intention, Jenica tells us, “It is an industrial-pop song and it is exactly the kind of music one might listen to while getting ready, running errands or if they want to feel like an it-girl. It can boost your confidence in seconds and has the ability to make someone bust out a move on a bad day. The girls are going to love it. It’s a metallic tune and if I had to give this song a colour, it would be silver.”

Jenica is a London-based multi-talented artist who writes, sings, records, produces, mixes and masters her own music from her living room using Logic Pro X.
