Our obsession with Elephant Moon seems to grow with every listen! We previously featured the artist’s conscious and intentional sophomore single, Good Medicine, as well as the liberated and spontaneous debut single, Where Were You, so naturally, we couldn’t wait to listen to Elephant Moon’s latest expression, Fly Again, and share our experience.

Fly Again opens with a highly intricate and glistening guitar soundscape with intricate layers. We are immediately in awe of the detail and Elephant Moon‘s vintage-adjacent vocals as he sings, “Longing for places, you ain’t been before, you deny it at times, still it moves, it’s always on your mind, turn another page, and leave it all behind…”

The song invites us to tap into notions of freedom, reconnection and renewal. The Danish songwriter Anders Dal behind the moniker of Elephant Moon tells us that it is about reclaiming movement after a period of stillness. He elaborates on how it is about the decision to move forwards, and rediscover a sense of freedom. He says, “Unlike many songs about freedom, Fly Again doesn’t start in optimism, it earns it. Hope here is recovery, not rebellion.”

We always appreciate the intentional depth behind the artistry of Elephant Moon, and this particular release really reminds us of early Elliott Smith as well as the more Eastern inflections in the finale that are reminiscent of The White Album by The Beatles, although Anders says he was inspired by the guitar work of Bert Jansch and John Fahey.

Anders adds with reference to his cohesive discography, “Together with Where Were You and Good Medicine, Fly Again completes a reflective arc – music that invites stillness, honesty, and movement.”
