Fiona Amaka is an incredible artist with soulful and heartfelt authenticity. We have been featuring her work for a couple of years now, and naturally wanted to cover her latest release, Justified. The track opens with a glistening soft rock energy with astral electric guitar motifs, psychedelic adjacency and poetic prowess.

Justified opens with the lyrics, “Yeah I’m getting on alright, but seeing you the other night, well I know I’m on your mind, but we both say that we’ve moved on, bet you never thought you’d hear me say…”

In essence, Justified poignantly explores the emotions that remain after a relationship has ended. Although Fiona insists she is “getting on alright” and both people have allegedly moved on, seeing her former partner brings back these old feelings.

There are emotive ebbs and flows in the lyrics, reflected by the production. At some moments, we believe the connection feels alive, despite a guarded exterior whilst it also manifests with a deep longing to recapture the closeness and comfort they once shared.

At its heart, the song is about regret, forgiveness, and the hope of a second chance. Fiona acknowledges she may have made mistakes and asks her former partner to let those mistakes go. There is a deep undercurrent of frustration and vulnerability, particularly with the hook of the song, which suggests how she struggles to accept a final rejection.

It’s really raw and honest, and this is what makes Fiona a great artist. Speaking on the sound and message, Fiona tells us, “Justified is a song about love and regret with a throwback 2000s sound which I feel sits somewhere between Macy Gray and Oliva Rodrigo in vibe.” We could also see this fitting into a film like A Star Is Born, P.S. I Love You, or The Lucky One.

As for who she created the song with, Fiona credits producer, composer and session guitarist Andy Zanini on guitars and production. She says, “I love the way his signature guitar licks wrap around the vocals.” We also learn that Kate Proudlove handled the vocal recording, whilst Stefan Antoinette provided additional mixing, and “his own indefinable, know-it-when-you-hear it layer of stardust.”

We adore the final result, and have added Justified to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the Cosmic version of Justified, and Fiona Amaka’s exquisite, wider discography.

Drawing us in with an intricate acoustic guitar performance with an orchestral yet meditative strings arrangement, Fiona Amaka opens Love That Fills My World – Acoustic Version with a timeless, cinematic allure.

Fiona shares her captivating timbre with the metaphorical lyrics, “Like a father to a child, a strong shield and how, how could I doubt you in my life, when you talk you light the way, the song you’re singing, how could I doubt you?”

With a subtle key change, symbolising that move from introspection to epiphany, Fiona sings, “When I know you, I know you, I know that you love me, I know that you love me…”. The star’s voice illuminates like a light bulb turning on, a notion of self-realization. Now with a tempo shift, once again showing authenticity and demonstrating the raw and intentional human nature of the song, Fiona taps into a more philosophical dimension for the hook.

We love the charisma and sentimentality that we experience. It is clear that Fiona is writing from a very real place. In the face of so many overly produced songs, to experience the British artist’s humanity with this release is nothing short of sublime. A luscious guitar solo follows, reminding us of early Dire Straits.

We learn that Love That Fills My World – Acoustic Version was recorded in London with producer and session guitarist Andy Zanini. Speaking on the release, Fiona confesses, “It’s one of our most popular songs in a live band setting, complete with long guitar solos! So this orchestral folk version with violin and cello is a completely different take on the song, and an experimental sound which is a bit tricky to fit into a genre. It’s part classical, part blues and part rock. Andy’s classical training definitely played a big part in shaping the sound.”

With reference to the cinematic accompanying music video, Fiona adds, “I’ve been simply amazed at the response since sharing video clips of the song. The video was filmed at the London Wetland and Wildlife Trust centre, and it’s been really well received. It feels great to take a risk and try new things musically.”

Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Love That Fills My World – Acoustic Version to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Fiona Amaka, and await future releases!

Setting the tone with an electric guitar introduction, Fiona Amaka opens Cowards and Shadows with a timeless rock energy, tapping into a 90s vibe as she shares the affirmative lyrics, “Breathe, let it out, close the door, you don’t have to keep pretending, you don’t feel it any more…”

We are immediately reminded of early Alanis Morissette as Fiona Amaka conveys her message with a slight twang, reminiscent of the critically acclaimed artist and her signature style. That said, there is no doubt that what Fiona Amaka is unique to her own design.

The strings arrangement amplifies the emotional quotient of the piece, written from a place of deep authenticity on the topic of “ghosting”, as Fiona reminds us that we don’t need to make excuses for anybody else. The prose is empowering, and we deeply connect with how the consciously astute star uses her voice for catharsis and to remind us that we have the power of autonomy.

Speaking on the release, Fiona says, “Cowards and Shadows was recorded in London with producer and guitarist Andy Zanini. The subject of ghosting kept coming up in conversations and in life. People were talking about how ghosting culture has extended out of personal relationships into so many areas, including job-hunting. So I guess this song came up out of that.”

On her process and connection with live audiences, the British talent adds, “I started playing the incomplete song at acoustic open mics and was amazed how quickly people picked up the theme and resonated with it. So I decided to record it.”

We absolutely love what Fiona Amaka delivers with her intentional releases, and as a reminder, the Fiona Amaka Band will be playing at the Camden Weekender Festival on 30 August in London. Fiona tells us, “I’m happy to say we’ll be playing Cowards and Shadows for our fans and listeners there! We’ve had a busy half year gigging around London and we’ve loved every minute of it.”

Of course, we have added Cowards and Shadows to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the exquisite, growing discography of Fiona Amaka, and look forward to seeing footage from her upcoming show!

Drawing us in with a dimensional rock soundscape with astral guitar tones and textured drums, Fiona Amaka opens No Daylight with a high octane vibe and vintage-tinged vocals as she shares a poignant message with the lyrics, “You pledged your allegiance, you wrapped it up with my gut strings, while I was thinking all the best, I was thinking all the best of you, now all I need you to know is sometimes you can’t have it both ways…”

In essence, No Daylight is about betrayal and disillusionment. Fiona sings from the perspective of someone who trusted deeply but was used and hurt in return. She realizes how her muse chose a dark, destructive path and viably clung to someone who didn’t truly care. The chorus is a wake-up call reminding them that they can’t have everything both ways.

The intentional track serves up a mix of sorrow, clarity, and letting go. It’s cathartic, empowering and feels very authentic. As for the soundscape, it manifests classic rock perfection with incredible instrumentation and Fiona’s enigmatic and hypnotic energy as she shares a message of resilience.

Speaking on the production release, the talented songstress confesses, “I originally released No Daylight in January 2025, and this is a remix and re-release of the song, with guitars and production handled by Andy Zanini and additional mixing by Stefan Antoinette.”

Fiona elaborates, “I think this version of the song retains the raw emotion and energy of the original version. We absolutely love the “melancholic banger”, but more to the point, we really vibe with the overarching brand of what Fiona Amaka stands for.

The authentic resonance of her as an artist is truly tangible. She writes from her soul and delivers every single time. There is no one quite like her, and it is great to hear that she will be performing with her band at the upcoming Camden Weekender Festival on 30 August! She says, “We’ve had a busy half year gigging around London and we’ve loved every minute of it.”

Naturally, we have added No Daylight to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Fiona Amaka‘s growing discography, and anticipate future releases from the star, including Cowards and Shadows, set for release on the upcoming Lion’s Gate Portal!

Fiona Amaka’s In-Club is a masterstroke of modern rock, carrying a timeless energy that resonates across generations while embedding itself in the present. Its charm lies in its ability to balance the anthemic and the intimate, inviting listeners to reflect on the universally human experience of exclusion while encouraging self-empowerment. This duality is where Fiona’s brilliance truly shines, crafting a track that feels as emotionally stirring as it is electrifying.

The production, helmed by the talented Andy Zanini, sets the stage with a soundscape that feels like stepping into a sonic time capsule. There’s a distinct retro vibe woven through the track, but it never veers into pastiche. Instead, it exudes a classic rock ethos that fans of David Bowie’s eclectic glam and emotional depth will instantly recognize and appreciate. The layered guitar work and rhythmic foundation provide the perfect canvas for Fiona’s voice to paint a story of resilience and individuality.

Fiona’s vocal delivery is nothing short of captivating. Her timbre carries a rawness that feels both astral and grounded, like a voice speaking directly from the soul. There’s an emotive melody to her performance that ebbs and flows, creating moments of quiet reflection punctuated by crescendos of defiant energy. The harmonies, subtle yet impactful, add an extra layer of richness, drawing the listener deeper into the track’s emotional core.

Lyrically, In-Club strikes a poignant balance between vulnerability and defiance. Fiona masterfully articulates the pain of being on the outside, of feeling “too much” or “not enough” to fit into a societal mold. Yet, the refrain, “There’s no need to say / I’m on the outside here / Not pining for your in-club”, is a bold declaration of self-acceptance and resilience. It’s a sentiment that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable, a testament to Fiona’s skill as a storyteller.

What elevates this track further is its relatability. The themes of exclusion and self-discovery resonate across age groups, social dynamics, and personal struggles. Fiona channels these experiences into a rallying cry that is at once intimate and collective. It’s no wonder live audiences and online listeners alike have gravitated to In-Club as a standout from her repertoire.

As Fiona prepares for upcoming performances with her band, including gigs at the Strongroom in Shoreditch and the Stags Head in Hoxton, one can’t help but feel the anticipation of hearing In-Club brought to life on stage. With her dynamic presence and the song’s anthemic potential, these performances promise to be electrifying celebrations of individuality and connection.

In-Club is an authentic experience, a testament to Fiona Amaka’s versatility and artistry. By blending timeless rock sensibilities with introspective storytelling, Fiona has crafted a track that transcends genre and era, carving a space for her voice in the ever-evolving landscape of music. For those seeking a melody to dance to and a message to hold onto, In-Club delivers both with unmatched finesse. We have added the opus to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Fiona’s wider discography, including Different, and Tell Her Why.

We previously featured Fiona Amaka when she manifested peace with the self-realized, Miles Apart, so when we heard that the talented creator was back with the Acoustic Version of Tell Her Why, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to share our experience.

Drawing us in with an intricate acoustic guitar and the sublime and captivating timbre that we have come to love from Fiona Amaka, the star shares her metaphorical soul and tangible authenticity with us as she takes us on a personal journey.

Tell Her Why delves deep into the complexities of emotional entrapment and self-deception within a relationship. The song’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of a protagonist who feels trapped, not by overt hostility but by a more subtle, psychological imprisonment. The notion of a “silent jailer” suggests that the confinement is not just imposed by external circumstances but is also self-inflicted, rooted in the protagonist’s own mind.

Throughout the song, the protagonist wrestles with their own negative behavior, rationalizing it as a response to their partner’s flaws. Lines like “You don’t hate her / You tell yourself, it’s cos she / Brings it out in you” reveal a deep-seated tendency to avoid taking responsibility, instead blaming the partner for triggering these reactions. This rationalization serves as a coping mechanism, allowing the protagonist to sidestep the hard truths about their own role in the relationship’s turmoil.

The repeated question, “And if you go, will it be different anywhere else?” is a haunting refrain that underscores the protagonist’s doubt about whether leaving the relationship will bring any real change. This repetition amplifies the internal struggle, highlighting a fear that simply escaping the current situation won’t resolve the underlying issues, which seem to be intrinsic to the protagonist rather than the relationship itself. Speaking on the release of Tell Her Why, Fiona confesses, “The song touches on the darker side of what relationships can be.” We appreciate the intimacy that comes to life with the acoustic version.

The London-based singer-songwriter brings her unique blend of “rock’n’soul” to life magnificently. Known for her bluesy vocals and dynamic guitar work, Fiona’s sound evokes a fusion of influences from legends like Stevie Nicks and Joan Armatrading to contemporary artists such as Francis of Delirium and Tyler Ramsey.

This acoustic rendition strips back the layers to reveal the raw emotional depth at its core. Produced by Andy Zanini in London with vocal production by Eric Sanicola in Los Angeles, the track showcases Fiona’s ability to convey powerful emotions through both her voice and guitar, creating a hauntingly beautiful listening experience.

Fiona’s journey as a solo artist has seen her perform across various venues in London, often collaborating with guest artists like Gabriel Leni and David Taro. Her music has garnered international attention, with airplay on stations such as Radio Armazem in Brazil and Hot 97.3 FM in Connecticut. Critics have praised her rich, soulful voice and the way it intertwines with her acoustic blues and rock influences. As TJPL News noted, Fiona’s music is an “emotional whirlwind” that resonates deeply with listeners. With Tell Her Why, Fiona continues to explore the complexities of relationships, delivering cool soft arrangements and beautiful melodies that linger long after the final note.

We have added the Acoustic Version of Tell Her Why to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the talented star, including the original version and Miles Apart!

Setting the tone with a strummed acoustic and astral electric guitar soundscape, Fiona Amaka opens Miles Apart with a pristine, yet atmospheric vocals, and the title of the track, as she shares situational prose and her lived experience, wisdom and emotional quotient with metaphorical nuance.

The opus expands with padded drums and magnetic riffs to take us on a timeless folk pop meets soft rock journey that fans of Tracy Chapman will certainly be able to connect with. Speaking on the message of the track, the London based rising artist confesses, “Miles Apart is a song about accepting that sometimes people can’t work out their differences, and being peaceful about that instead of trying to force things.”

Fiona continues with depth, “A little bit like laying a flower down on a river’s waters and watching it get swept along. The echoing slide guitar carries across some of that vibe.” We deeply connect with the relatable nature of the prose, and the authenticity that Fiona exudes with her vocals and songwriting.

Elaborating on her artistry, Fiona tells us, “My sound developed in the early days of former band Bittersweet, characterised by my bluesy vocal set against a driving rock guitar. My solo sound remains bitter-sweet in nature, and includes touches of folk. Miles Apart explores that folk side in a different way.”

We learn that Miles Apart was recorded in London with producer and session guitarist Andy Zanini whilst Eric Sanicola worked on the immaculate vocal production of the track in California. Fiona cites Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Smashing Pumpkins, Joan Armatrading, Dayglow, Matt de Marco, and of course, Tracy Chapman as sonic influences, which comes through in her sound, although there is no doubt that Fiona Amaka is manifesting a universe of her own.

We have added Miles Apart to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to explore Fiona Amaka‘s wider discography including What if its Love, and In-Club, whilst we anticipate future releases from the talented creator.
