It is a known fact – probably amongst a lot of you guys that Gregg Araki is one of my favourite directors in the world, so it is all kinds of amazing that Kenzo has unveiled the comedy film “Here Now,” directed by American filmmaker himself with an incredible cast.

The film stars actors Jake Weary, Nicole La Liberte and Avan Jogia and features the brand’s eclectic Fall/Winter 2015 collection. The deadpan production focuses on a group of twenty-somethings and the drama of their daily lives.

The original short was both written and directed by Araki, one of the leading talents of the New Queer Cinema movement.

To celebrate 10 years of Jonathan Saunders, the brand and designer collaborated with writer and director Justin Anderson for this beautiful short film ‘Jumper’ taking inspiration from David Hockney’s ‘Swimming Pool’ series, part funded by the Fashion Film initiative and sponsored by River Island.

The story sees a Pedro Almodovar-esque bourgeois European family’s reality interrupted by the visit of a naked visitor played by actor Guillaume Dolmans.

First debuted on Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine, Ada + Nik just launched their new Autumn Winter 2014 fashion film, The Dark Wolf.

Directed and produced by Oz Thakkar and creatively produced by Nik Thakkar and Ada Zanditon comes the premiere of Ada + Nik ‘The Dark Wolf’ – a film created for the unveiling of the brand’s AW14/15 collection at London Collections: Men this week.

Focussing on Ada + Nik themes of brotherhood, timelessness and rebellion the film shows Diego, trapped in an alternate reality in an infinity of sand for what could be minutes, hours, days, years or eons, taking up the last of his energy to summon his brother, SMITH. Coughing up the last of his energy into his hand and forming a liquid symbol to awaken the warrior within SMITH – he knew that this could be his only salvation.

In a Philips technologically enhanced world, SMITH is awakened by a loud banging, he opens a door to find a box of sand, he opens the box to be stunned by the visuals and location of his long lost brother. SMITH begins a heroic journey, overcoming The Dark Wolf and various obstacles guided by an ethereal Snow Queen (Nikita Andrianova) and her timeless beauty.

Meanwhile, Diego transcends realities through intense meditation growing gaunt as his energy depletes through his efforts to summon his brother.

Following a physical battle with The Dark Wolf, SMITH glitches into the reality of the infinity of sand where his brother is trapped. Diego subsequently awakens and the two heroes are reunited.

The film stars Karin Park and is directed by Thomas Knights – it was created as a result of the crowd-funded initiative in conjunction with Audacity of Fashion and also features Ada’s swimwear collaboration with Auria London.

The track featured is Opium (by Karin Park of course). Hair and makeup by Oscar Alexander Lundberg and Ann-Marie Lawson.

I’m all for branded content, but this was (perhaps overly) cleverly positioned as something more worthy. It turns out that on this occasion, the #SecretProject is essentially a fashion film in collaboration with Defend Paris – a clothing line (hoodies, t-shirts) created by her boyfriend Brahim Zaibat and a set of Parisian creatives. The interesting aspect is that it is a brand with a cause – encouraging charity with every purchase and giving back to the community. How much/what percentage is still open to speculation…

The brand itself really seems to hero the machine gun (it’s part of their logo and in the campaign film under the cut), which doesn’t scream “peaceful”. Other talent who have worn the brand include Zachary Quinto, Rihanna and Chris Brown, the only person confirmed to be designing for the brand in the future is Quinto. The project is set to launch with VICE as its media partner.

This fashion short, whilst it features Rodriguez’s collection, also tries to explore the underlying themes of its conception. Particularly of note is how the production CGI team at Vision Globale in Canada brings to life the aesthetic of Domingo’s collection through the computer generated mazes.

As an experimentative piece of content, this really excels as a fashion film to invigorate the ethos of the brand.
