The cycle of cool and relevant seems to be becoming tighter by the year, because recent peak Mugler “brand” was without a doubt under the reigns of Nicola Formichetti between 2010-2013, so barely five years later, it seems we’re ready for an archive resurgence.

The iconic brand will hold a new exhibition at The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, over 130 of Mugler’s most iconic designs will be seen in public, some for the first time, alongside art work by famed photographers and archive materials. It’s being held in the same place as the Gaultier exhibit which went global over the course of two years, so we can hopefully expect the same!

Let’s hope some of the architecture renders of the proposed Mugler Hotels in collaboration with French architect Jean-Paul Cassia come to life there too!

Sensory exploration for this season is actually pretty incredible, particularly in London where a multi-sensory exhibition called PERFUME just launched in the East Wing of Somerset House. The exhibition, sponsored by COTY features ten extraordinary perfumes and their pioneering creators, who have radically changed our perceptions of fragrance over the last 20 years. I had the chance to experience PERFUME privately earlier in the week courtesy of COTY; for me the most intriguing part of the immersive journey is the mystery of not knowing who the fragrance is designed by as you experience the curator’s immersive creation inspired by the scent. The olfactory journey through the rooms is a pretty great adventure, from a magnetic gun metal ball pit to the Moroccan desert, a Catholic confessional and a water theme park, it’s a really enjoyable visit. A personal highlight was being able to experience the L’Origan Coty from 1905 – a scent that sadly no longer exists due to ingredients legalities. The exhibit is open until 23 September.

July also saw the release of a duo scent from Emporia Armani – Because Of You and Stronger With You. I mean, duality as a theme is pretty timeless and current (what’s up NEO 10Y), so it’s not surprising that I was really into this as a concept and experience. Don’t let the super heteronormative narrative fool you, both scents work for both sexes and mixing the two also creates a really unique blend especially with the top notes of cardamom, pink pepper, violet leaves with a base of vanilla and musk.

Last but never least, Tom Ford just unveiled Mandarino Di Amalfi Acqua private blend, with the mandarin and blackcurrant top notes, combined with musk and amber base notes, it truly creates a vision of the serene Amalfi cliffside at night, with their citrus fruits with an almost nocturnal floral element.

I met Ssam Kim via my friend Ansoni in New York in the same building as Asher Levine’s studio about three years ago. Ssam has been shooting with various boys in NY over that time and I really remembered the experience but hadn’t actually seen the final photos until just now. Ssam presented their exhibition ‘Beautiful Men In New York’ last week at New York Fashion Week Men’s in collaboration with Glass Magazine. I’m honoured to have been selected as part of the final set. Thank you Ssam, I love this pensive portrait.

During LFWM this season, and to celebrate five years of London Fashion Week Men’s, Topman evolved the traditional show format (what they would normally do) and launched ‘Transition’ – an immersive exhibition carefully curated by a series of collaborators who truly reflect the spirit of TOPMAN DESIGN.

Collaborators include the immensely talented and poster human for diversity Campbell Addy and the brilliant poet Max Wallis.

I am honoured to have been a part of this, and included in Max’s piece, titled ‘I Love You, Man’ which showcases the vulnerability and how you can encapsulate the whole range of human emotion through just four words. The videos were directed by Ashley Joiner and you can read Max’s poem below.

I LOVE YOU, MAN – by Max Wallis

Hey. I love you man. You know that right? I know what it’s like. When your days and night start to spiral and all you see is that washing black noise of a phone that won’t connect. I’m getting flashbacks. You know that time – we were playing football – Tom had his kit on the wrong way round and he tripped and we caught each other’s eye. I love you, man. I’ve been meaning to tell you. Every day, I walk around this city and I try to come up with the words to make you realise what it is about you that matters the most. You know, it’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it? I’ve been there. It’s hard going through this alone. I’ve been thinking and I know why you said what you said, and did what you did. I mean, I don’t understand it properly. But, I love you. Man, I love you! Remember our first pill? No? How about our first drill in school. Fire alarms in primary school. Mrs Hodgkins giving it all that. Or what about our first cigarette when the teachers weren’t looking? I know it’s difficult where you are. I wish I could write to you in emoji. Tell you a dirty joke. Give you a ball to hit back. My phone’s down to 4%. There’s no way to get through to where you are. If you get this, give me a sign. I love you, man.

Travel and Vuitton have always been a big part of the reason why I love the brand so much. The intrinsic and authentic connection between the two stemmed from the fact that Monsieur Vuitton left his family mill at the tender age of fourteen to travel to Paris – a 280 mile journey by foot, back in 1835. It was from there that the specialism in travel accessories began under the guidance of Monsieur Romain Marechal.

Back to 2015, to celebrate the various stages of Louis Vuitton heritage (from 1854 to today), the exhibition ‘Volez, Vogues, Voyages’ has launched at the Grand Palais curated by Olivier Saillard, with set design and art direction by Robert Carsen and in collaboration with fifth generation family member, Patrick Louis Vuitton.

Showcased over 9 rooms, the exhibition features heritage pieces from the very first trunks to the most recent creations designed by Nicholas Ghesquiere and Kim Jones.

A little preview of what you can expect in the images below. Will make sure to share more in January when I am in Paris for menswear week!

Tattoo culture has definitely broken further into the mainstream over the last decade – with influencers such as Ricki Hall, Vin Los, Ruby Rose and more – plus the use of tattooed models on such a highly infiltrating level across the creative industries – Diesel and Gaultier campaigns alone, not to mention hundreds of emerging fashion brands and advertising campaigns that have heroed body art.

To celebrate this, photographer Danny Baldwin is celebrating the rise of “The Tattooed Male Model” with an exhibition featuring over 100 models including Diego Barrueco, Leebo Freeman and Chris Perceval. Some examples can be seen within this post over over on Instagram. However, in order to finish the exhibition and bring to life the body of work by 2016, Danny has launched a Kickstarter offering various incentives from prints to a photoshoot.

The ideology is to encourage acceptance and celebrate individuality, freedom of expression and creativity. As a photographer Danny wanted to document this significant and rapid change in acceptance and to celebrate the art form of tattooing within a fashion setting.

As a name for an exhibition, “From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk” speaks volumes and can only be attributed to one designer – the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier. Running from today (October 25) until February 23, 2014 at The Brooklyn Museum – the groundbreaking French couturier showcases playful, poetic, and transformative garments inspired by the beauty and diversity of global cultures.

It’s a multi-media exhibition tracing the influences on Gaultier’s development from the streets of Paris to the cinema since he emerged as a designer in the 1970s.

It features approximately 140 haute couture and prêt-à-porter ensembles – and in his words it is “so big, so huge, so fabulous and so American”. The mannequins have interactive faces created by high-definition audiovisual projections as well as accessories, sketches, stage costumes, excerpts from films, documentation of runway shows, concerts, dance performances, fashion photography and contemporary art. The exhibition is curated by Thierry-Maxime Loriot of the MMFA. Image of Jean Paul Gaultier in his “Barbès” women’s ready-to-wear fall-winter collection of 1984–85 by Paolo Roversi. Rather genius promo video below by Stéphane Sednaoui featuring the brilliant Karlie Kloss.

KARLISMYUNKLE icon James Franco’s exhibition based on the cult classic Rebel Without a Cause, which first premiered in 2011 at the Venice Biennale and has just opened at LA’s Musuem of Contemporary Art. Presented by Gucci, the show features video installations, photographs, paintings and sculptures by Terry Richardson, Harmony Korine, Damon and Paul McCarthy, Ed Ruscha, Douglas Gordon, Aaron Young and James himself.

‘Rebel’ is an interrogative ode to Nicholas Ray’s 1955 masterpiece, conceived by Franco to embrace and mine the main themes and events in the original film. Below is a still image from James Franco’s projection with sound Brad Renfro Forever featuring James Franco himself, Scott Haze, Mark Mahoney and Jim Parrack.

Tonight, London College of Fashion launched “Carmen: A Life in Fashion” to celebrate the 80th birthday and 66 year career of “the world’s most enduring supermodel” Carmen Dell’Orefice. The exhibition featured images from Carmen Dell’Orefice’s personal archives by world famous fashion photographers including Irving Penn, Norman Parkinson, Cecil Beaton, Horst P Horst, Victor Skrebnesky and Ali Mahdavi. My favourite image being the recently commissioned piece by Ali Mahdavi, with whom I worked on the Wonderbra by Dita Von Teese campaign in 2008.
