Drawing us in with an industrial, rhythm guitar ettie opens Marty McFly with conceptual and metaphorical prose, and a compressed vocal design as she sings about going back in time like the protagonist of the Back To The Future movies, Marty McFly.

The opus expands with clarity, as ettie shares depth with her lyricism, tapping into reworking her life more positively by making significant changes through a fictional time machine.

The philosophical nature of the song is relatable, as there are many people on planet Earth that would be able to connect with the concept. One can dream about reversing time and making changes that suit us better, but ultimately accepting our path and reality is a really important way to find peace within ourselves, and that is what ettie offers with her words and wisdom.

We appreciate the minimalist soundscape and ettie‘s astral vocal performance. The way that the star uses her head voice feels unique and dimensional. The song also depicts “a sentimentality and yearning to be able to go back in time and tell her younger self that it’s okay to be who you are” with reference to her sexuality, which we applaud.

Speaking on the release, ettie describes Marty McFly as “a bop to set a soundtrack to healing your inner-child.” She adds that she wants us to “make amends with the past, dance the pain away, and always remember life feels so good when you don’t hide your true self.”
