The emergence of a folk banjo creates a grounded energy, fused with the electric tones which create dimensionality along with the more cerebral and textured percussive elements. The theme of the song is somewhat existential and serves as a message for homeless people who are caught between notions of survival and collapse.

Vocalist and lyricist Philippe Mourani conveys poetic prowess as he brings this poignant reality to life. To Be Named Between a Life and Another brings to life the story of someone stuck between who they were and who they might become. It follows a lost soul drifting through city life, carrying guilt and past wounds.

This person feels unseen and unnamed, akin to a ghost moving through concrete and crowds. Memories and regret seem to keep resurfacing, and in turn, erode any sense of direction and hope. They tell stories for escapism, but nothing really heals them. In the end, they see themselves as insignificant – just passing through life without impact or purpose.

It is sad, and the soundscape is perfectly designed to reflect this. There is no doubt that To Be Named Between a Life and Another is fitting for a range of sync placements – notably a Hollywood movie or TV show with similar themes – perhaps remakes of The Pursuit of Happyness, Midnight Cowboy, and The Soloist.

Philippe Mourani storytelling ability reminds us of early Bob Dylan. He is joined by Pasquale Sacco on guitar, David Ganon on drums, and Day Day on bass, multi-instrumentation, and engineering. We learn that Eternal Mourning is a Montreal-based indie folk band whose music blends raw emotion, rich storytelling and layered arrangements, balancing melancholy with uplift through contrasts of light and shadow.
