Setting the tone with cosmic textures and a dimensional beat, Toronto-based, avant-garde artists enjyng and Wrené open their collaborative single, SHAME, with intrigue and atmospheric vocals.

The opus expands into an intricate and immersive sonic experience. We appreciate the experimental, reversed-hybrid soundscape, which lends itself to a sense of uniqueness, giving SHAME a character of it’s own, but also in line with the meaning of the lyrics, and the message of the piece.

We learn that the collaboration presents “an unfiltered perspective of the difficulties of communication amongst today’s youth in an ever-changing technological era.” SHAME touches upon the themes of “difficulties of censorship, the anxiety-inducing tribulations of social media use, and the desire to express one’s most authentic self in a culture enslaved to false perceptions of fulfilment and wholeness.”

The pair tell us that it is a story of love undeclared, intended to be heard by those who feel distanced and disconnected from the illusions of fulfilment presented to us in our daily bombardment of media.

We appreciate the depth and intention of the opus, and love the industrial, synth that immerses us almost half way though the track and for the finale. The cerebral detailing in the production is simply out-of-this-world has us reaching for the repeat button!

enjyng cites Joji, XXXTENTACION, and The Weeknd as some of his influences, whilst Wrené delivers a surrealist approach in her artistry, and it is clear that both creators are manifesting a universe of their own.
