We previously featured Elena C. Lockleis when she shared her soul and raw authenticity with her evocative debut single, Mind – Vs. – Heart, so when we heard that Elena was back with Faulty Wire, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Drawing us in with a brooding piano performance with an astral riser eventually expanding with higher notes, Elena C. Lockleis opens Faulty Wire with a powerful and introspective monologue as she shares prose about never expecting to release the sound of her own voice.

She says that she is releasing this as she is hurting, for catharsis. This feels powerful as she confesses to her pain, insomnia, and how life is breaking her down. The message feels extremely relatable in the face of our shared reality and the torture that many of us experience on planet Earth.

Elena repeats the mantra, “things have to get better”, imbued with deep authenticity and a breathy voice that feels extremely real. She tells us, “This song was written at about 6 am after another night staying up in overwhelm. I needed the overwhelm out of my system.”

We learn that the music is an instrumental by Sleeplessbeats, which feels very apt for the message being conveyed. Elena continues about feeling stuck, coming undone, her solitude, and eventually references the faulty wiring of one’s brain for the title of the track.

The opus feels like release for both Elena C. Lockleis, and anyone who is privileged to experience the track. In essence, what Elena C. Lockleis is sharing is very raw and relatable. We deeply connect with her feelings, and we know that many people in the world will feel this way too. Elena adds, “This song is helping me craft my own voice within my own voice. If that makes any sense.”

We immediately connect with the authenticity that Mind – Vs. – Heart exudes. The vocal timbre from Natalia Zuk is sublime with layered moments, a hypnotic delivery that does justice to the overarching intention of the song.

The introspective nature that manifests feels highly relatable and has a cinematic edge. Perfect for major Netflix series synch deal that echoes the themes of the song. The quiet intensity hits hard. It is well produced and as soft as it is visceral. We can hear the ache in every word. Elena confesses, “I think a lot about what love might look like for me in the future. What love might look like in the future with depression mixed in. This is one of my songs that explores that.”

There is no doubt that Mind – Vs. – Heart is a deeply personal song, tapping into the rawness of human connection, but also the philosophical notion of the push and pull between the mind and the heart.

We learn that Elena C. Lockleis is influenced by Julia Michaels, which we can feel come through with the songwriting and accompaniment, but there is no doubt that Elena C. Lockleis is manifesting a universe of her own. The most impressive part? It was made entirely remotely. A vocalist found on Fiverr, a producer on AirGigs. Yet the song feels close, like it was made in the same room. That says a lot about chemistry, even across distance and the power of technology.
