Establishing the mood with cerebral ad lib, expanding with a static, rising synth line and textured kick drums, P00TA5H opens ELECTROPHOBIA with dynamism and a metallic aura. The opus evolves with originality and subversion to take us on a neuroplasticity-enhancing trip, tapping into universal themes and thought-provoking motifs, both sonically and spiritually.

We appreciate the structure of the track and its psychedelic 8-bit energy. The ebbs and flows, and unique synths that emerge, create dimensionality and keep us enthralled throughout. There is no doubt that ELECTROPHOBIA could be featured in a trippy episode of a show like PLUR1BUS on Apple TV, which resonates with the sonic themes of the track.

We learn that ELECTROPHOBIA appears to be less about a specific story, and more about creating an intense electronica experience designed to explore the relationship between people and technology. In this sense, it feels highly zeitgeist as we slowly move towards transhumanism. Even the title suggests a tension between attraction to, and fear of, electronic or digital worlds, aligning with the track’s futuristic, synthetic sound.

The composition was created entirely by P00TA5H, also known as artist Stuart South. It was produced in his bedroom studio; and fans of Kraftwerk, Talk Talk, and Heaven 17 will most certainly be able to connect with what he has manifested.

We could imagine experiencing ELECTROPHOBIA at a unique DJ set at FOLD or UNFOLD in London. In many ways it is club-ready, but also highly innovative and pushing electronic music into new territory.

We love what P00TA5H has created and have added ELECTROPHOBIA to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of P00TA5H, including Hurts, Watch It Fall, and BUTTERFLY.
