Michellar is a rare artist who creates with such vigour and passion that her consistency should be studied by music industry professionals far and wide. Avid readers will know that we have previously platformed Michellar, also known as Michelle Bond, for her inspiring, genre-expansive work, so naturally, when we heard that she was back with Do We Love Us, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in her sonic universe once again.

Do We Love Us opens with an 80s adjacent synth and textured drums as Michellar curiously sings, “What are we waiting for? What are we looking for? What are we running from today? Where are we going now? Where are we flying to? What are we hiding from this time around?”

The song continues as Michellar asks for these responses from us and her muse. Her delicate timbre is captivating and the playful nuances with what she delivers is hypnotic. There is certainly a cinematic allure that manifests with Do we love us, and we could imagine it being featured in a sequel to Drive.

Michellar confesses, “The Weeknd influenced the sound of this song. The song’s backstory is influenced by a crush on a collaborator. I always loved the modern easy going melodies of The Weekend’s songs. So when I wrote this song on my acoustic guitar…. and finished it …. I wanted to achieve that same vibe with this song and contacted [producer] Marius [Alexandru] right away.”

The star continues, “Working with collaborators, there is always a chance of getting too close because one’s vulnerabilities are open to accept certain emotions . A lot of times , restraint needs to be practiced and the only way to release that emotion is through a song. So that is why I wrote this song. As much as I like writing songs with more powerful meanings… writing songs such as this is a lot of fun and takes me away from being so serious all the time.”

We love the light-hearted energy that transmutes and this is exactly what we need in a world with so much global turmoil. Also, self-created painting that accompanies the track is one of our favourites! Needless to say, we have added Do We Love Us to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Michellar, and anticipate future releases!
