<p>We previously featured <a href="https://karlismyunkle.com/2026/04/12/slapper-delivers-a-hypnotic-80s-infused-electronica-experience-with-new-single-we-kept-the-night/"><strong>SLAPPER</strong> for the hypnotic electronica experience, <strong><em>We Kept the Night</em></strong></a>, so when we heard that the rising producer was back with <strong><em>Disco Decoder</em></strong>, we couldn&#8217;t wait to listen and share our review.</p>

<p><strong><em>Disco Decoder</em></strong> opens with a dimensional synthscape, evoking rippling notions and expanding with a pulsating beat. Astral bell tones draw us in further as we experience a dynamic 80s energy, signature to SLAPPER&#8217;s artistry, with hypnotic, almost psychedelic vibes.</p>

<p>There is a cinematic allure that manifests, and there is no doubt that <strong><em>Disco Decoder</em></strong> would be perfect for a sync placement in a film like <strong>Drive</strong>, or a scene in <strong>Heated</strong> <strong>Rivalry</strong> or <strong>Euphoria</strong> on <strong>HBO</strong>. It would also be great in a more trippy series like <strong>Nine Perfect Strangers</strong>. </p>

<p>Speaking on his creative process, <strong>SLAPPER</strong> says, &#8220;<strong><em>Disco Decoder</em></strong> is a retro-futuristic single built around punchy drum machines, shimmering synth textures, and a driving 126 BPM groove that blends robotic energy with bright dancefloor momentum.&#8221;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1020" height="680" src="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/slapper.jpg?resize=1020%2C680&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-56434" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/slapper-scaled.jpg?resize=1020%2C680&amp;ssl=1 1020w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/slapper-scaled.jpg?resize=632%2C421&amp;ssl=1 632w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/slapper-scaled.jpg?resize=768%2C511&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/karlismyunkle.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/slapper-scaled.jpg?zoom=2&amp;resize=1020%2C680&amp;ssl=1 2040w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></figure>

<p>With reference to his inspirations, <strong>SLAPPER</strong> says, &#8220;The track serves as both a tribute to and a modern reinterpretation of the pioneers who shaped electronic and disco music &#8211; from the futuristic pulse of <strong>Giorgio Moroder </strong>and the machine precision of <strong>Kraftwerk</strong> to the cinematic synth landscapes of <strong>Jean-Michel Jarre</strong> and <strong>Vangelis</strong>, alongside the club foundations laid by <strong>Juan</strong> <strong>Atkins</strong> and <strong>Frankie</strong> <strong>Knuckles</strong>.&#8221;</p>

<p>We love the creative ebbs and flows, stripped-back, meditative motifs, shimmering expansions, and subtle production shifts that bring to life a cohesive tapestry of sound. The music video taps into themes of human connection, escapism, love and intrigue. </p>

<p>As for sonic peers, fans of <strong>Tame</strong> <strong>Impala</strong> and <strong>Kavinsky</strong> would be able to vibe with <strong>SLAPPER</strong>, but we feel that what the artist is creating is unique to his own design. We have added <strong><em>Disco Decoder</em></strong> to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of <strong>SLAPPER</strong>, including <strong><em>Into the Light, </em></strong>and<strong><em> The Break of Day. </em></strong></p>
