Establishing the mood with a meditative frequency and a hummed vocalization, expanding with an intricate piano performance, Danny Grove (stylized as dannygrovemusic) opens Thought You Won with a delicate timbre and the lyrics, “Seven years, you thought you won… seven years and fire ashes falling through the rain, best friends, lovers, now I barely know your name..”

We immediately connect with the relatable message that manifests and Danny’s raw vulnerability. The timeless nature of the pop production with padded drums, percussion clicks would go down well with fans of Charlie Puth, Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber.

In essence, Thought You Won tells the story of dealing with heartbreak and betrayal. Danny shares how he slowly becomes emotionally numb after love fades away, but there is catharsis and empowerment in the overarching message as the song questions who truly came out stronger after the relationship collapsed.

Speaking on the release, Danny candidly says, ““Past ..they didn’t win! Feel the words in your heart, don’t ask questions, unless you have won this breakup and moved on. A journey with love and experience – it can be tough but can you judge who won.”

The vocals are dynamic and dimensional with luscious harmonies and a timeless cinematic energy which would be perfect for a scene in a TV show like My Life with the Walter Boys, or perhaps a film like The Love Hypothesis.

We learn that Danny Grove is an emerging creator from Telford, England, delivering dark emotional R&B with cinematic vocals and raw honesty. His modus operandi is to transform heartbreak, toxic love, and vulnerable late-night emotions into relatable anthems with a powerful sad-boy aesthetic.

Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Thought You Won to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Danny Grove, including Nothing To Me, and Love Matrix.
