Our obsession with The Marsh Family seems to grow with every listen! Last year, we featured the talented unit as they created a space of support and togetherness with the vibrant and charming single, The Bubble Song, so naturally, we were keen to explore their latest offering, a cover of Keeping the Dream Alive, originally by Münchener Freiheit in 1988!

For some context, the lyrics of the song reflect on memories that resurface during a rainy night. Through the prose, the rain brings back faces, places and emotions from the past. The family shares how they feel notions of both nostalgia and longing. Even though the hopes once shared were unrealistic, they still mattered, and the memories keep the connection alive. This message actually feels very zeitgeist, and we can understand why The Marsh Family decided to release this cover.

Keeping the Dream Alive is also a song about perseverance. The concept of the “game” is life, love, and a shared dream. Even when things might end or fall apart, the dream continues as long as we hold onto it. We learn that patience is a virtue, and “keeping the dream alive” gives meaning and hope to our shared existence.

As for the soundscape, we are enamoured by the layered power-pop vocal harmonies, luscious and awe inspiring. The delicate performances of the verses with intricate guitar accompaniment are sublime and the orchestral nuances add a whimsical edge to the composition.

It almost feels like this would be a perfect addition to the Wicked movie franchise. There is an escapist sentiment, and theatrical nuance that comes to life. We learn that Keeping the Dream Alive is also a charity single. The track raises money for Tiny Toes, a neonatal charity in East Kent.

In the deep rooted lore of Lana Del Rey’s music career, traditionally steeped in cinematic and melancholy allure, concepts of doomed romance, and vintage glamour, her song Summertime Sadness holds a unique place as her only Grammy-winning track, though not in the way most would expect.

Originally the song was a brooding ballad from her 2012 album Born to Die. It was then transformed by French DJ Cedric Gervais into a pulsing EDM hit, which lit up clubs and radio in 2013. It was this unexpected remix that earned the song a Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2014. This marks Lana’s first and only Grammy win.

The irony is evident. The haunting original, which was true to her artistic vision, only found mainstream and industry recognition after being reshaped into something accessible. This brings us to 2025, when Tonal Swell released their own cover of Summertime Sadness. Naturally, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

The Tonal Swell cover opens with a cosmic soundscape, expanding with atmospheric vocals and a delicate energy as we are immersed in the intention of the original version of the song. We learn that the re-imagining features brass and wind arrangements to create a lush, vintage feel. The creator tells us, “Every element has been carefully crafted from scratch with meticulous attention to sonic detail.”

We appreciate the high emotional quotient that transmutes, and the mix feels cinematic and refined. Speaking further, Tonal Swell confesses, “I’ve always listened to Lana’s tracks with a special sense of inspiration. Her songs filled me with tranquility and thoughts of the incredible and dreamlike.”

This vibe certainly manifests with the cover, and we love the poetic grace that the iconic lyrics are delivered with. The drums are crisp and textured and the cover boasts an epic drums outro, which is unique and a really nice addition to the composition!

Once a Top 20 U.S. hit from the soundtrack to Evita back in 1996 and performed by none other than Madonna, written by British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice – You Must Love me has made a return to the mainstream this week with a cover by none other than goddess ultimate Lana Del Rey.

The ballad also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song which definitely makes it quite a feat to cover but hold the phone it is amazing. Lana’s wistful silken voice is included on the composer’s two-disc compilation, called Andrew Lloyd Webber Unmasked: The Platinum Collection and is literally hypnotising.

The compilation is due for full release March 16th, also features new editions of “Learn to Be Lonely” from The Phantom of the Opera, sung by Beyoncé, Gregory Porter “Light at the End of the Tunnel” from Starlight Express and Barbra Streisand rendition of “With One Look” from Sunset Boulevard.

CR Fashion Book has been my favourite magazine since it launched with the debut Rebirth issue with Kate Upton. Season upon season, Carine Roitfeld and her team have outdone themselves to premiere Kim Kardashian in a unique and new light, not to mention the Beyonce issue, so it is really exciting to see none other than Lady Gaga dubbed by Carine as defining ‘Classic Eccentric’ – beyond accurate.

Here’s Gaga by Bruce Weber – completely unretouched throughout the issue, Weber also interviews Gaga for the cover story as he is a huge jazz enthusiast.

CR also unveiled the cover of the first ever CR Men’s Book featuring Lucky Blue Smith shot by Sebastian Faena. Very excited to see what’s in the debut issue!

Shot by Jackie Nickerson at what was likely a similar time to the Yeezy Season 1 lookbook is a pretty enigmatic story for the cover of Paper magazine. It is almost the polar opposite to Kim’s cover in every sense, which has this beautiful synchronistic to it.

The last quote from the story is the highlight and summarises the entire delivery:

“Help me to help more! I’ve given all I’ve got. I’ve gone into fucking debt. It’s all I’ve got to give. But if I had a little bit more opportunity, I could give so much more.”

The man has a message with this era. Here’s to what “So Help Me God” has to offer. Repentance is always a strong look.
