Drawing us in with an ethereal, intertwined guitar soundscape, TWINSIZE opens Contortionist with cerebral dimensionality and cinematic allure. The opus expands with an atmospheric frequency and textured drums featuring intricate percussion.

We appreciate the melodic build of the composition and the opening metaphorical lyrics. We are immersed in an introspective, vulnerable and thought-provoking universe that resonates with relatable themes that many of us have experienced.

The poetic prowess is sublime, and in essence, Contortionist centres on notions of emotional imbalance. We could imagine the track being performed in an old episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer at The Bronze, whilst one of the main characters is going through a narrative that aligns with the prose. It would also work well in a movie like Queen of the Damned, a more psychedelic TV show like Nine Perfect Strangers, or something a bit more psychological like The Girlfriend.

Fans of early Garbage, Hole, Slowdive, Wolf Alice, and My Bloody Valentine would also be able to connect with the song – especially the epic vocals and grunge-adjacency. Speaking on the release, the band confesses, “Contortionist is all about bending over backwards for someone who wouldn’t reciprocate. It’s a melancholic ballad about desperation and heartache and how it manifests physically as well as emotionally. A piece of our hearts has been interwoven within this song and we hope that it can poke its way into yours.”

The instrumentation and build are transcendental – it’s truly awe-inspiring with cosmic guitars and an insane vocal delivery climaxing before an elegant and cinematic breakdown for the finale.
