In December, we featured Andrea Pizzo and The Purple Mice for the conscious tale of fate, sacrifice, and survival on the poetic single, Come Out Lazarus 1 Life Is Over, so when we heard that the project was back with the sequel, Come Out Lazarus 2 – Ineffability, our interest was piqued and we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Come Out Lazarus 2 – Ineffability opens with a cerebral, expanding frequency and reverberating psychedelia. We are immediately transported to another universe before we experience exquisite vocals written by Raffaella Turbino. This evolves with a pulsating heartbeat and existential prose, aligned with the concept of the wider project.

Whilst the first chapter told the story of a deadly accident and an organ donation from an outside perpective. The second chapter invites us to live through an NDE (near death experience) from the inside. This may have never been done before, and feels highly innovative.

Come Out Lazarus 2 – Ineffability exemplifies how pain disappears, time seems to stop, and their sense of self grows into something limitless. The lyrics depict seeing one’s body from outside, moving through a tunnel of light, and feeling deep love from the universe, but in a personal, emotional way. It is designed to feel like a real experience, and not a scientific explanation.

Musically, the song is very different from the first one. Instead of rock, it uses indie electronica and downtempo sounds to invoke notions of calm and introspection. The music is arranged by Roberto Tiranti (who also plays all the instruments). He creates a floating, immersive atmosphere that matches the theme of light, personal, and slightly disorienting in a good way. This is also brought to life by the accompanying artworks.

The song would be perfect for films like Flatliners, Heaven is for Real, and After Death, along with the TV show The OA which depict these themes.
