Setting the tone with immersive synth textures and a dimensional bass line, we are already hypnotised by Chip Pirrs‘ new single, When In Rome.

The opus expands with intricacy and add lib details to form a luscious alternative pop meets electronica soundscape, as Chip Pirrs delivers atmospheric and glitched vocals. He sings the choral hook, “I was in Rome, doing what the Roman’s do, now I’m at home, wandering why I’m feeling blue…”

We learn that When In Rome is “about coming home from a party or a vacation with your friends and trying to explain what you want your partner to think happened, and not necessarily doing a great job at it.”

We appreciate the concept of the song, and the soundscape and emotion that it is delivered with. This is a very relatable theme and Chip Pirrs‘ authenticity stands out as he tackles a subject matter that can be quite vulnerable and hard to be honest about, based on the old adage that the title of the single is named after.

The release of When In Rome follows Chip Pirrs‘ experimental album, A.S.M.R., where the rising artist from New York maintains his signature style with added dimensionality.

Chip says, “My last album was super experimental in sound and form and although I loved so much of it, I wanted to experiment with more traditional song structures this time and see where I can push boundaries while still adhering to some of the standard rules.”

When speaking on the intention of his art, Chip confesses, “[My] music is for people who stay up at night with anxiety searching for a way to make ends meet. People who have the courage to chase their dreams but haven’t seen them all come true yet. This is the music for people who have been overlooked but have overcome.”

We love the sonic landscape that Chip Pirrs‘ creates and the message of his artistry, as well as the pitched vocal narrative that concludes the track, almost like advice and self realization from an AI personality.
