Drawing us in with an immersive synthscape and elegant piano with subtle percussion textures, Chase the River and Lauren White open Ghost with atmospheric vocal performances, fused with melodic guitar riffs.

We immediately connect with the emotive nature of the prose, and the poetic prowess that is shared by both artists as they take us on a relatable journey of love and loss.

The composition expands with dramatic flair and a timeless energy that we simply cannot get enough of. It showcases nothing short of instrumental mastery, before an anthemic build evokes further depth, both sonically and emotionally.

A fierce guitar solo mesmerizes us whilst Lauren delivers astral harmonies. A climactic moment subsequently leads to a breakdown finale, leaves us yearning for more.

Speaking on the message of Ghost, Chase the River, also known as multi-disciplinary artist Stuart Lunn, confesses, “It’s all about the Empire Bar in Belfast.”

The star continues with depth and personal experience, “I started there at eighteen, listening to amazing music, drinking too much, I had four first dates there in my life. Then I started performing there, and now when I visit or perform I realise, much like Disney’s circle of life, I am now providing the memories that someone once provided to me. Then, in true self reflecting, I think back on the people I knew from that time who are no longer in my life, and it’s a little melancholic I guess, but also, well, that’s how life marches on.”

Chase the River cites Damien Rice, Matchbox Twenty, and Crowded House, as well as “storytelling bands and singers” as his sonic influences, which we absolutely feel come through with his sound, although there is no doubt that Stuart is manifesting a universe of his own.

The talented creator leaves us with some words of wisdom as he says, “We all have regrets, the woulda, coulda, shoulda, sometimes it is nice to sit in those places and remember. it’s only bad if you let that take over.”

We love what Chase the River is creating, and have added Ghost to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, including The Lies & The Crimes.
