UPDATE with statement from Charli xcx’s team:

“Charli has made seven albums, four mixtapes and one EP, and has written countless songs for other artists throughout her career. She began as a songwriter with ‘I Love It,’ and her work has been recorded by and pitched to multiple artists. She has her own personal history with publishing and production negotiations and because of this, she always shares credits fairly and appropriately, and values her collaborators tremendously.

“Ahead of the Wuthering Heights album release, a standard review process was conducted on a small number of tracks from the album, including fragments of material originating from earlier sessions. This process involved managers, legal representatives, artists and producers, and included a thorough review of archival materials and demo recordings.

“All relevant parties were consulted throughout, and the album was played in full in advance of release to everyone. Songwriting credits and splits were determined and agreed collectively in writing, with reference to documented timelines and contributions.

“All credits were finalized and formally approved by the appropriate parties prior to the album’s release.”

—

Sky Ferreira has publicly pushed back against circulating claims about her involvement in the Wuthering Heights soundtrack, while also fuelling speculation that her creative contributions may have gone uncredited. The controversy began after an alleged “industry insider” claimed that Ferreira had written or contributed to songs associated with Charli xcx, particularly those tied to a Wuthering Heights–related project. According to the viral messages, specific tracks – such as “lol eyes of the world,” “chains of love intro,” and “alters” – were either derived from Ferreira’s earlier work or directly linked to demos she created as far back as 2015.

However, Ferreira quickly dismissed these claims in public comments, calling the insider information “close but wrong.” While she avoided confirming the exact details, she did not fully deny that there was some connection or overlap. Instead, she suggested that the situation was more complicated, stating that there had been “more than an intro” involved and that the issue spanned multiple pieces of work and timelines. This ambiguous response has led fans to speculate that Ferreira may have contributed creatively in ways that were never formally acknowledged.

In a longer, more emotional statement, Ferreira expressed frustration over how the narrative has unfolded. She emphasized that she had no control over the situation and was not allowed to speak openly about it at the time. According to her, the past decade of her career has been marked by similar experiences – being “dragged & humiliated” while important details remained hidden. She also criticized how public perception can be manipulated, suggesting that the truth is often overshadowed by more sensational or convenient narratives.

Rather than directly accusing Charli xcx of theft, Ferreira framed the issue as part of a broader pattern within the music industry. She implied that her work may have been used, adapted, or referenced without proper credit, but stopped short of naming individuals responsible. This careful wording has left room for interpretation: some see it as an indirect accusation, while others view it as a reflection of systemic problems around authorship and recognition.

Ultimately, Ferreira’s statements highlight the murky nature of creative ownership in pop music. While no concrete evidence has surfaced proving that songs were “stolen,” her insistence that the situation is “loaded” and misunderstood suggests there may be unresolved disputes behind the scenes. For now, the controversy remains largely speculative – driven by partial disclosures, fan interpretation, and Ferreira’s own cryptic but pointed remarks.

Charli xcx’s The Moment isn’t just another celebrity movie – it’s a cinematic experiment that blends mockumentary, hyperreality, satire, and self-mythology into something uniquely of its time. Conceived from an original idea by Charli herself and directed by Aidan Zamiri, this A24 feature reframes pop stardom not as a straightforward chronicle, but as a highly stylized, self-aware interrogation of fame’s veneer. At first glance, The Moment might resemble a music documentary: it follows a rising star, played by Charli, navigating the chaos of producing an arena tour during her Bratera, complete with real performance footage and press cycles woven into fictional scenes. But the film refuses to stay in the documentary lane. Charli has been clear: “It’s not a tour documentary or a concert film in any way.” Instead, it’s a 2024 period piece that grew out of industry pressure to make a conventional doc and turned it sideways into something more surreal and incisive.

At its heart, The Moment plays like a mockumentary, but one that doesn’t simply parody reality TV or behind-the-scenes fare. The tone is deliberately heightened: real tour clips shot alongside hyper-edited sequences, bizarre instructions from a clueless live-show director, and moments so eccentric that the viewer questions where the documentary ends and the fiction begins. This approach taps into hyperreality, where the lines between reality and representation blur, and “the real” becomes indistinguishable from the performed or mediated version of itself. Charli’s character is described as “a hell version of myself,” suggesting her on-screen persona is both an exaggerated caricature and a raw reflection of her lived experience in pop culture’s spotlight. Rather than simply showing fame, The Moment performs fame. This is a world where influencers, executives, assistants, and musicians orbit Charli’s trajectory with equal parts genuine concern and opportunistic flamboyance. It’s chaotic, over-the-top, and at times hilariously uncomfortable, like watching someone attempt to document themselves while the camera crew argues about straps and lighting. The result is a satirical, almost postmodern commentary on how fame is produced, consumed, and repurposed in the digital age.

Part of what makes The Moment feel so layered is its cast, who blur reality and fiction. Charli xcx plays a version of herself, caught between authenticity and absurdity. Alexander Skarsgård plays the eccentric director whose strange ideas mirror the often nonsensical demands of entertainment industries. Kylie Jenner makes her acting debut as herself, giving intense, almost surreal advice that feels like an extension of celebrity persona culture. Alexander Skarsgard, Rosanna Arquette, Rachel Sennott, Kate Berlant, Hailey Benton Gates, and others populate the orbit around Charli, a mix of actors and influencers who represent the many voices vying for narrative control in a pop star’s world. This cast roster reinforces the film’s layered reality: some play exaggerated versions of real figures, others are fully fictional, but all contribute to the feeling that we’re watching a documentary that knows it’s a documentary and wants to expose the machinery beneath it.

The trailers released so far are a perfect primer for this hybrid form. One memorable shot has Charli hiding inside a giant lighter at her director’s behest, an absurd, unforgettable image that signals this is not a typical music behind-the-scenes film. Throughout the teaser, we see chaotic rehearsals, stylized backstage moments, and surreal insertions that feel more like music videos than documentary footage. But that’s precisely the brilliance: The Moment insists that life, celebrity, and art are often indistinguishable from their representation in media.

The Moment collapses genres, merging documentary, biopic, and fiction into a collage-like structure that mirrors the fragmented nature of modern fame. It uses meta-commentary to reflect on industry expectations, turning the very idea of a pressured documentary into the film’s foundation. By leveraging hyperreality, it shows not just Charli the person, but Charli the symbol – the moment she became the moment. At its core, the film is also a commentary on narrative control, questioning who gets to tell your story and how authenticity is performed in a world that markets the image of authenticity.

The Moment is poised to be more than a movie; it is a postmodern mythologization of a pop star’s rise and the culture that fuels that rise. By blurring reality and fiction, documentary and narrative, satire and sincerity, Charli xcx and her collaborators have crafted a work that doesn’t just depict fame – it deconstructs it. Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in early 2026 and set for wide release on January 30, it is shaping up to be one of the most compelling and self-aware pop culture films of the year.

In an era where global pop culture is more interconnected than ever, South Asian artists are making significant inroads into the mainstream music industry. From the pulsating beats of Bollywood to the introspective depths of alternative and electronic music, these artists are carving spaces for themselves in the UK and US, industries historically dominated by Western artists.

For decades, South Asian representation in the pop and alternative music scenes of the West was sparse at best. The industry’s gatekeeping, cultural stereotypes, and limited commercial backing for artists of non-Western backgrounds made it difficult for South Asian musicians to break into the mainstream. However, in recent years, a new wave of talent has begun to shatter these barriers. Today’s South Asian artists are not only reclaiming their narratives but also influencing the global soundscape in unprecedented ways.

The Artists Redefining the Industry

1. Charli xcx: The Genre-Bending Powerhouse

While Charli xcx has achieved mainstream success with her hyper-pop sound, fewer people recognize her Indian heritage. With a career spanning club bangers and experimental electro-pop, Charli’s fearless reinvention of pop music challenges traditional notions of what a pop star should be.

2. NEO 10Y: A Visionary Icon

London-based artist NEO 10Y is at the forefront of pushing the boundaries of music and identity. Blending psychedelic rock, electronic, and alternative pop, they bring a deep philosophical and spiritual perspective to their artistry. As an openly queer and non-binary artist, their music is as much about self-discovery as it is about societal change, creating a radical and liberating presence in the industry.

3. Armaan Malik: Bollywood to Global Pop

Armaan Malik is perhaps one of the most versatile artists on this list. Having already conquered Bollywood’s music industry, he is now bringing his talents to the global stage with English-language singles that blend R&B, pop, and classical South Asian influences.

4. Arooj Aftab: Grammy-Winning Elegance

Brooklyn-based Pakistani artist Arooj Aftab merges jazz, folk, and South Asian classical music to create hauntingly beautiful compositions. Winning a Grammy for her album Vulture Prince solidified her place as a pioneering force in the alternative music space.

5. Diljit Dosanjh: Punjabi Superstar Goes Global

A household name in Punjab and Bollywood, Diljit Dosanjh is now breaking Western music barriers. His historic performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon proves that Punjabi music is no longer a regional genre – it’s global.

6. BombayMami: The Cultural Alchemist

The Indo-Swiss singer BombayMami brings a fresh and playful energy to the industry. Her viral single “Fire in Delhi” captured the essence of modern diasporic identity, blending South Asian sounds with Western electronic production.

7. Nikitaa: The Goddess of Pop

With her signature “Goddess Pop” genre, Nikitaa seamlessly fuses lush electronic beats with South Asian instrumentation, proving that South Asian artists can push creative boundaries beyond expectations.

8. Nora Fatehi: The Global Collaborator

Moroccan-Indian artist Nora Fatehi is best known for her infectious dance music and collaborations with Western pop icons. Her recent work with Jason Derulo highlights her ability to bridge cultures through sound.

9. FEAR OF MARKO: The Experimentalist

With a background spanning emo, glitch, and rock-infused electronic music, FEAR OF MARKO is one of the most exciting alternative artists of South Asian heritage. His work resonates with fans looking for something beyond the mainstream.

10. Arijit Singh: The Voice That Transcends Borders

Although primarily a Bollywood playback singer, Arijit Singh’s popularity in the UK and US proves that South Asian music isn’t confined to a niche market. His ability to perform live for hours on end showcases an unparalleled dedication to craft.

11. Rhea Raj: The Pop Visionary Bridging Cultures

Rhea Raj is an Indian-American pop artist and producer known for her sultry vocals, genre-bending sound, and fusion of Western pop with South Asian influences. With a background in dance and an effortlessly bold aesthetic, she crafts high-energy tracks that resonate with a global audience. From viral covers to original hits like Royalty, Rhea is redefining what it means to be a South Asian pop star in the modern era.

The rise of South Asian pop artists in the UK and US is not just about music – it’s about representation. For far too long, the global music industry has overlooked the vast talent pool within South Asian communities. When we see artists like NEO 10Y unapologetically embracing their identity, or Diljit Dosanjh bringing Punjabi anthems to mainstream Western audiences, it sends a powerful message: South Asian artists are not here to conform; they’re here to lead.

Moreover, this shift is reshaping the sound of mainstream music. Collaborations between South Asian artists and Western pop stars are becoming more common, leading to an exciting fusion of musical traditions. Whether it’s South Asian classical elements blending with electronic beats or Punjabi folk rhythms making their way into hip-hop, the industry is witnessing a long-overdue diversification of sound.

The future of South Asian representation in Western pop music looks promising. With more artists breaking through and redefining what success looks like, the music landscape is becoming richer, more diverse, and more inclusive. These ten artists are just a glimpse of what’s to come – and as the next generation continues to push boundaries, South Asian voices will only grow louder on the global stage.

Charli xcx is set to star in and produce THE MOMENT, an upcoming A24 film that offers a satirical and incisive take on the music industry. The film, directed by Aidan Zamiri, is described as a “mockumentary that follows the life of a pop star in the lead-up to her first headline arena tour.” It promises to be an inside look at the mechanisms of the music world, examining how subculture is transformed and often diluted by commercial success.

This project marks Charli xcx’s first film under her new production company, Studio365. It also serves as Zamiri’s feature-length directorial debut after helming several of Charli’s music videos, including 360 and Guess. He co-wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes, a culture writer known for her contributions to i-D, Dazed, and Vice.

Charli xcx will take on the lead role, bringing authenticity and a deeply personal perspective to the character. It has also been confirmed that the film will feature True Blood and Lady Gaga music video star Alexander Skarsgård, as well as Rosanna Arquette and Trew Mullen. A casting call posted in early 2025 revealed that the production was looking for actors to fill supporting roles, including a character named Maria, described as an “insightful healer” in her 40s to 60s. Additional casting details have yet to be announced.

The film’s music will be composed by A.G. Cook, the mastermind behind the influential PC Music label and one of Charli xcx‘s most trusted collaborators. Cook’s avant-garde production style has been instrumental in shaping Charli’s sound, particularly on her highly anticipated album Brat. His involvement in THE MOMENT suggests a soundtrack that will likely blend hyperpop aesthetics with an experimental cinematic score.

David Hinojosa of 2AM is producing the film with Charli xcx, with executive producers Brandon Creed, Mikey Schwartz-Wright, and Zach Nutman attached to the project. The partnership between A24 and Charli marks another step in the singer’s growing involvement in the film industry. In addition to THE MOMENT, she has a role in David Lowery’s Mother Mary, a pop melodrama also produced by A24, alongside I Want Your Sex, Faces of Death, and Sacrifice, which features Yung Lean.

No official release date has been announced, but THE MOMENT s already shaping up to be a unique addition to A24’s catalog, promising a sharp, self-aware critique of the music industry wrapped in Charli xcx’s signature aesthetic.

Charli xcx just dropped Talk talk featuring Troye Sivan, and it’s everything you didn’t know you needed, and even includes some cameo appearances from multi-linguist popstar Dua Lipa! This collab is one of the many gems from her upcoming remix album Brat (and it’s completely different but also still brat), set to release on October 11th. Charli’s been on an unstoppable ride this year, and this remix album is about to take it to the next level.

Following her critically acclaimed BRAT, which hit the scene back in June, Charli’s remix project is already causing a buzz. If you’ve been vibing with the original album (and let’s be real, who hasn’t?), you’re in for a wild ride. BRAT not only ruled the charts but also dominated the cultural landscape. From surprise DJ sets at her viral PARTYGIRL events to epic collaborations with icons like Billie Eilish, Addison Rae, and Lorde, Charli’s year has been pure chaos in the best way possible. Oh, and she also introduced a whole new tone of green to the internet, because of course she did.

Her breakout single Guess (featuring Billie Eilish) landed at No. 1 on the UK charts, making her the first British artist to top the charts this year. Not to mention, BRAT has been nominated for the Mercury Prize 2024, further solidifying Charli’s reign as a pop culture powerhouse.

Charli isn’t just dominating music – she’s breaking into film and TV too. After her hit Speed Drive made waves on the Barbie soundtrack last year, she’s now co-executive producing the score for A24’s Mother Mary with Jack Antonoff. Plus, she’s producing original music for the Prime Video series Overcompensating, starring Benito Skinner, and gearing up for roles in two upcoming films: a remake of the 1978 cult horror Faces of Death and Greg Araki’s erotic thriller I Want Your Sex. Yeah, she’s busy.

And for all the Charli fans out there, get ready: she’s about to embark on her biggest headline tour ever. In November and December, Charli will be performing in arenas across the UK. But before that, she’s teaming up with Troye Sivan for their SWEAT co-headlining US tour, kicking off this weekend. With most dates already sold out, it’s clear fans are ready for the pop takeover.

ICYMI: Charli made history earlier this year when her Boiler Room show in Brooklyn broke records, with over 40k people RSVPing. The event featured guest appearances from the likes of Addison Rae and Julia Fox and became one of the most viral moments of 2024.

Whether it’s music, fashion, or breaking the internet with viral moments, Charli xcx is an unstoppable force. And with Brat (and it’s completely different but also still brat), she’s continuing to push the boundaries of pop music.

You can pre-order the album now, and don’t miss Talk Talk featuring Troye Sivan on all streaming platforms.

Charli XCX 2024 Tour Dates:

US Tour kicks off 14/09 in Detroit, MI

UK Tour starts 27/11 in Manchester

Pre-order the album, grab your tickets, and get ready to SWEAT!

Thematically, this post is rather cherry flavoured as whole. Rihanna finally released the video fro Work featuring Drake today and in a surprising turn of events, it is actually a double feature. The first segment (directed by Director X) is shot at Toronto’s iconic The Real Jerk showcases the most ideal party scenario that this video could offer (it is just like a party I went to in Rio last night actually – more to come on that in my visual diary from Brazil!). The second segment which is a more understated but equally sexy affair is directed by Tim Erem. Enjoy the clips below!

In other pop news, Pepsi Max Cherry has teamed up with the one and only and incredibly talented Charli XCX to bring to life their #LiveForNow Taste Revolution campaign (side note: you might last year’s immersive experience with Pepsi Max Cherry in London). Charli XCX has lent her creative flair to what is being dubbed “GIF-iti art” in collaboration with artist INSA. Charli described the taste of Pepsi Max Cherry as “roaring through icy glaciers with pink cherry lips and glittery diamond eyes” which inspired INSA to create an image of a wolf roaring across an icy pink and blue backdrop. Check out the video below!

In rather incredible pop news, electronic music legend Giorgio Moroder has just announced the release of his first album of solo material in over 30 years and it features a rather extensive and groundbreaking list of pop collaborations including Britney Spears, Sia, Kylie Minogue and Charli XCX. I mean, this is incredibly exciting and somewhat unreal.

You can get a taste of what is to come with the video for 74 is the new 24 – directed by Jai Lewis using Andromeda Software Development. Artwork below and a must read interview on The Creators’ Project.

Charli XCX is the voice of not one, but two generations. This video is a massive proof point. It goes back to 90s high school dark comedy era, inspired literally by Jawbreaker and even features a cameo from scream queen Rose McGowan. It also begs the question whether the video Fancy was actually Charli’s brainchild. Seeing Charli at the VMAs last night, holding her own with the emerging pop starlets was somewhat of a moment. She totally deserves this. Also, so hot.

Charli’s sophomore album Sucker is out October 21st via Neon Gold/Atlantic Records.

Break The Rules is an awesome taste of Charli XCX’s new album Sucker. Finally an artist getting the recognition that she deserves. It’s legitimate punk rock and everything that it should be. Rules, officially broken.
