Establishing the mood with a cerebral synthscape and playful bassline, Becky Raisman opens her EP, Earth Goddesses with dimensionality, intrigue, and a track titled Moonlight Goddesses. She shares the lyrics, “Daughter, and mother, aunts and nieces are dancing in the night, under the moonlight, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender women are dancing in the night, under the moonlight, gathered in peace and harmony…”

Immediately we are transfixed by the progressive and unique soundscape, as well as the inclusive and conscious universe that Becky Raisman manifests with her prose. The sentiment feels empowering, evolved and united – a sentiment that we need now more than ever.

Moonlight Goddesses is rooted in celebrating the divine feminine – a powerful and evocative message. The middle eight taps into a meditative guitar moment, stripped-back and inviting introspection as the soundscape rebuilds into an authentic and visual finale as Becky sings, “Our voices will be heard, we’re not done…”

Next up is Live It Up, Live It Loud, which taps into an alternative rock energy at first – reminiscent of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The track is assertive in its nature, inviting us to stand our ground. Again, we connect with the wider message of the track, and how Becky’s intention is rooted in empowerment of women.

Speaking on the record as a whole, Becky confesses, “Earth Goddesses is about being strong, living life, shining, being Goddesses. Living it up and living it loud. It’s inspiring, positive, encouraging and love. Uplifting.”

This authenticity really shines through, and Live It Up, Live It Loud is a perfect example of this. We could imagine the track locking in a plethora of sync placements, notably a coming-of-age movie or a TV show like Euphoria on HBO.

The final track on the record is Shining Through My Window which opens with a high emotional quotient and syncopated drums with a guitar soundscape as Becky sings, “I see your light, it shows me the way, I wake up and it’s a brand new day, shining through my window, you’re always near, in every moment, I can feel you here…” The track feels like an ode to the universe, inviting us to connect with source energy. The guitar performances are sublime, tapping into 80s notions akin to Dire Straits or even Genesis.

There is no doubt that Becky Raisman’s music comes to life as an uplifting, life-affirming collection of songs that celebrates positivity, personal growth, and creativity. She confesses to being inspired by songwriting classes and nostalgic influences like Degrassi: The Next Generation, and the EP, recorded at Sound Farm Studios, most certainly showcases a distinctive sound, timeless yet futuristic, filled with inspiring messages and enchanting melodies.
