More than a decade after it shimmered onto our screens, Burlesque is ready to take center stage again – this time under the dazzling lights of London’s West End. And who better to lead the charge than the woman who made the original film unforgettable? Pop icon, vocal powerhouse, and all-around legend Christina Aguilera is stepping into the role of producer for the stage adaptation of Burlesque, marking her official West End debut in a creative capacity.

Burlesque The Musical is now playing at the West End’s Savoy Theatre until 6 September 2025. Fans and theatre insiders alike are already buzzing with excitement as Aguilera breathes new life into the sultry, glitter-soaked world she helped create.

An Icon Reclaims Her Crown

When Burlesque premiered in 2010, it was a glorious collision of old Hollywood glamour and modern pop. Christina Aguilera starred as Ali, a small-town girl with a voice that could shatter chandeliers and a dream that wouldn’t quit. Alongside the legendary Cher, Aguilera dazzled audiences with powerhouse vocals, dynamic choreography, and a storyline that fused heart, grit, and sparkle.

Though the film received mixed critical reviews, it has since evolved into a cult classic, celebrated for its unabashed glamour and empowerment themes. Songs like “Express,” “Show Me How You Burlesque,” and “Bound to You” became anthems – and Aguilera’s performance became a defining moment in her career.

Now, with Burlesque’s transformation into a full-scale musical, Aguilera’s influence goes far beyond the spotlight. As lead producer and co-creator, she’s crafting a bold new vision of the story she helped make iconic. “Burlesque has always been about taking control of your power and identity,” Aguilera confesses. “Bringing it to the stage in this way feels like coming full circle.”

The Team Behind the Velvet Curtain

The West End production of Burlesque features an all-star creative team, with direction and choreography by Nick Winston (Bonnie & Clyde, Fame) and a new book by Steven Antin, who also wrote and directed the original film. The stage version will combine beloved songs from the film with original music written by a top-tier team including Jessie J, Todrick Hall, and Kylie Minogue’s longtime collaborator Steve Anderson.

Aguilera is also contributing original songs and overseeing the musical’s vocal arrangements – a thrilling prospect for fans eager to hear her stamp on the stage version.

Casting has yet to be officially announced, but anticipation is building around who will take on the role of Ali – an extraordinary character with powerhouse vocals, grit, and charisma. Rumors are already swirling around rising stars from both sides of the Atlantic, but one thing’s for sure: the bar has been set sky-high.

Why Burlesque Still Matters

In an age where empowerment, self-expression, and female-led storytelling are more vital than ever, Burlesque’s return feels perfectly timed. Its themes of resilience, reinvention, and the transformative power of performance continue to resonate. Aguilera’s involvement – both creatively and spiritually – ensures the stage adaptation will honour its roots while boldly embracing the future.

She’s no stranger to reinvention herself. With over two decades in the industry, Aguilera has continually broken boundaries – musically, visually, and culturally. Whether through chart-topping hits, fearless fashion, or advocacy for self-love and freedom of identity, she has carved out an indelible place in pop history. Producing Burlesque for the stage isn’t just a return to form – it’s a continuation of her legacy as a trailblazing artist who redefines what it means to be iconic.

Curtain Up on a New Era

Burlesque The Musical is now playing at the West End’s Savoy Theatre until 6 September 2025. Tickets are already in high demand, with fans eager to witness the next evolution of a glittering phenomenon. With Aguilera at the helm and a dream team behind her, Burlesque is ready to shake up the West End with feathers, fire, and fierce femininity.

Because some stories are just too fabulous to stay on screen.
