Fast forward to recent times, the team offered me the opportunity to work with objectively their moodiest vehicle – the Wraith Black Badge and specifically create something aesthetically contemporaneous in association with the car – as you’re about to experience – the dystopian film noir, cinematic elements between my universe and the Wraith Black Badge are truly an enchanting sonic and visual match. Also for historic reference, Hedi Slimane created this editorial back in 2010 (via Dazed) with a darker edition of the iconic vehicle.

With all of that contextualised, here’s the Sonic Film tracked by my NEO 10Y song Janis and featuring a part CGI, part live action, part performance-based adventure and a piece of creative content bringing to life the Spirit of Ecstasy, and the theme of deconstructing to reconstruct that I am really proud to share with you.

My song Janis which soundtracks this film was recently described on the radio (listen here) as “the future” which fits really seamlessly with the Wraith Black Badge, considering that during my experience driving it for four days, I can honestly say that I have never felt so integrated into technology as when I was in the driving seat of the Wraith. Next stop, transhumanism.

For additional cosmic reference, the lyrics of the song include the (rap) verse in French: “Prends le moi, subversive, protège-moi de la haine et le fait et la reine et la peur et le roi,”, which translates in this reality to “take us the subversive ones, protect us from hatred, ‘facts’, royalty and fear.” I’m happy to be showcasing the plight of the underdog and unrepresented sections of society with my artistic work and this film that takes a subversive attitude and brings it to life heroically and cohesively alongside the car. Tonight is a really weird night, it feels really weird. The UK parliament has just agreed to bomb Syria which is really devastating. I’m genuinely so embarrassed for David Cameron and his government. Anyway, Oz snapped these on the balcony, we were light testing which probably explains the highly contemplative face. I’m wearing The Kooples current season…the image fits that nicely, “Nik et Nik depuis…toujours”. Hat via a store in Soho, t-shirt by Cos.

Last week I had the pleasure of a joining Hawes & Curtis for a tailoring session at the eponymous brand’s flagship Jermyn Street store. Granted my experience with tailoring may be limited, my knowledge of crafting quality garments is somewhat expansive!

Established in 1913, Hawes & Curtis has pioneered several styles over the years including the backless evening waistcoat, but as a company have managed to stay current and offer timelessness wardrobe staples without completely breaking the budget. Notable customers have included Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Bing Crosby, Lord Mountbatten, Frank Sinatra and Fred Astaire.

Featured here we have a charcoal and white check detail slim fit Italian made suit from the 1913 collection coupled with a classic Hawes & Curtis fitted white shirt. The fit of the suit itself is exceptional thanks to in-house tailor Richard….and as for the process – rather seamless – it took a mere two days from fitting to final completion.

With that in mind, I also wanted to share some intel and advice on shopping for suits particularly when it comes to identifying fabrics to retain shape – often the hardest part of the game. Breathability is key – and this is always affected by the garment’s weight. Wool being the most popular, versatile and long living cloth tends to retain shape when constructed with a heavier weight. Essentially lighter cloth means that shape doesn’t retain as well, so it is wise to protect your lighter weight suits as much as possible. If in doubt, speak to your tailor about the “Super” of the garment – the higher the super (i.e. 160/180) the finer the fabric.

The digital initiative “Drôle de Paris” (which was just previewed on STYLE.COM along with a short interview with me) showcases two signature Jean Paul Gaultier looks, including the statement leather with lace and classic Breton stripes with a kilt – all taken from the Autumn/Winter 13-14 collection. The campaign and 17-second digital film by French fashion photographer Emma LeDoyen were shot at Gaultier’s Paris headquarters in June and styled by me.
