We previously featured Blacklight Beat Patrol when he took us on a cerebral and transcendental trip with his dimensional opus, Awe Walk, so when we heard that the visionary artist was back with the evocatively titled, Dumpster Fire, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.

Dumpster Fire opens with syncopated horns and a rising drum’n’bass beat – textured and intricate. A meditative synth pans in the background as the beat pulls out and we experience a trippy and psychedelic yet somewhat eerie synthscape. The return of the beat manifests with full dynamism, as we journey in a cerebral tech hybrid universe.

The organic motifs are balanced with the more futuristic notions, akin to travelling to another dimension. We experience the fullness of the human and technological experience, reminding us of the holographic and tech-smart nature of reality as we know it.

The cosmic ebbs and flows are welcome, as a more industrial and subversive bassline emerges with astral bell tones. The detail is incredible, and we are enthralled by the sonic universe that Blacklight Beat Patrol is creating. Reverse record scratches add a nostalgic, almost breakbeat energy to the piece, which fades out with a celestial, metallic synth drifting off into the ether.

We learn that Dumpster Fire serves as the bold lead single from Blacklight Beat Patrol’s upcoming album It Gets “Better”. The track is designed to push the project deeper into its signature world of controlled chaos.

Speaking on the release, Blacklight Beat Patrol says, “Fusing mechanical, clockwork-like percussion with deep, distorted bass swells and digital decay, the track is a calculated study in the “weird tone” of the fringe.”

For some background, Blacklight Beat Patrol is the experimental electronic project of Rhode Island producer and multi-instrumentalist Scott R. Corneau. He launched the project in 2021 as a space for outsider-minded creativity, and works from his home studio.

Naturally, his sound has drawn comparisons to artists like Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, and Flying Lotus. There is also an undeniable cinematic appeal, and we could imagine Dumpster Fire in a dystopian movie like 2073, The Electric State, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, or Bionic, which all explore a world where advanced technology has fundamentally broken society.

Needless to say, we continue to be in awe of what Blacklight Beat Patrol creates, and have added Dumpster Fire to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Blacklight Beat Patrol, and anticipate the release of It Gets “Better”!

Establishing the mood with astral bell synths, creating a dimensional vibe, expanding with subversive, textured drums, reverse record scratches and cerebral nuances, Blacklight Beat Patrol opens Awe Walk with a hint of drama, fused with a cinematic appeal.

There is an almost 8-bit video game adjacency to the track, but it feels refined and simultaneously psychedelic. The meditative moments feel transcendental, sublime and peaceful, whilst the more fierce and assertive dramatics tap into the industrial and trippy energy that we have come to expect from Blacklight Beat Patrol, having featured a slew of the project’s previous releases.

There is no doubt that Awe Walk is a unique composition, which three main sections, the debut, the yogic soft core, and the anthemic conclusion – we appreciate the density fused with the zen, and how Blacklight Beat Patrol always keeps up on our toes.

Speaking on his unpredictable compositional nature, Blacklight Beat Patrol, also known as producer Scott R. Corneau confesses, “I find joy in blending genres and sounds that shouldn’t work together — broken grooves, conflicting layers, fragments that feel like they’re falling apart until they snap into place. That’s the energy and approach I’m carrying forward with this record.”

We learn that Awe Walk offers the first glimpse into Blacklight Beat Patrol‘s upcoming fourth full-length album, currently in production and expected later in 2025. We cannot wait to experience what is still to come, and if Awe Walk is something to go by, then we know that we are destined for a sonic adventure that transcends boundaries.

We have added Awe Walk to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist. whilst we continue to stream the exquisite, wider discography of Blacklight Beat Patrol, including Tragically Plastic, and Party Enconobox!

Blacklight Beat Patrol’s third album, Meet the Blacklight Beat Patrol, is a breathtakingly bold exploration of sound, emotion, and individuality, crafted with an unorthodox flair that celebrates the outsider spirit. Building on the enigmatic energy of their previous release, Whispers from the Void, this album takes us on an astral journey through chaotic rhythms, unpredictable structures, and expansive soundscapes, creating a narrative that feels deeply personal and refreshingly unpolished. It’s a celebration of misfits, dreamers, and anyone who’s ever felt disconnected from the ordinary.

The album opens with Party Econobox, a track that sets the tone with a mesmerizing fusion of subversive soundscapes and cerebral sonic elements. Astral synth melodies cascade in boundless waves, creating a futuristic atmosphere that immediately captivates. The dynamic layers draw the listener into a multidimensional experience, establishing a surreal and energetic starting point.

Fun with Ray Guns follows, bursting through with its 80s-inspired synths and pulsating astral tones. Almost immediately, it morphs into an 8-bit landscape that feels ripped straight from a retro video game, complete with syncopated rhythms and psychedelic twists. The track evokes the sensation of a DMT or psilocybin journey, with pulsating basslines that evolve into darker, grittier territories, reflecting a balance of chaos and control. It’s a standout moment that embodies the album’s ethos of spontaneity and creative freedom.

Ten Paces transports us to a futuristic club, marrying industrial techno vibes with ethereal, meditative synths. This track perfectly captures the interplay of euphoria and introspection, layering spacey textures over driving beats. The 8-bit nuances woven throughout the track enhance its cohesion with the album’s overarching themes, while its hypnotic rhythm invites listeners to lose themselves in its pulsating energy.

The cinematic allure of Cassette Tape (Unspooling) takes centre stage next, opening with celestial synths and a charming, groovy bassline. The synths detune and pitch down in unexpected ways, offering a cerebral, almost tactile quality to the sound. There’s a nostalgic charm to its 80s influence, yet the experimental production ensures it remains forward-thinking, a hallmark of Blacklight Beat Patrol’s artistry.

Inversion Principal shifts gears, delivering one of the most tranquil and dimensional moments on the album. Its peaceful, meditative qualities offer a sense of respite amid the high-energy tracks, highlighting the record’s ability to balance variation without losing its core identity. This track feels like a quiet revelation, offering emotional depth through its simplicity.

The centrepiece of the album, 8×8, is its longest and most ambitious track. Opening with a pulsating bassline and cerebral frequencies, the song gradually builds intrigue through nuanced percussion and glitchy details. It evolves with an otherworldly and dramatic intensity, creating a sprawling soundscape that feels like an odyssey through uncharted sonic dimensions. It’s a testament to the band’s ability to craft layered, cinematic compositions that demand full immersion.

Letter E on Repeat reignites the album’s boundless energy with melodic, dimensional synths that immediately captivate. Perfect for a late-night drive or a contemplative moment, the track exudes a magnetic quality that feels infinite. Reverse record scratches and breathy vocal samples add texture and intrigue, reminding us why this album could easily serve as the soundtrack to a Hollywood sci-fi epic.

Project Shellback shifts to a moodier, industrial tone, marrying dramatic sound design with high-octane energy. The intricate, progressive production makes it an ideal track for physical activity, whether in the gym or out on a run. Its raw intensity and nostalgic nod to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles add a playful yet powerful element to the tracklist.

The adrenaline continues with Speedrunning, a cinematic and high-energy journey that evokes the thrill of video game soundtracks. Sonic switch-ups and intricate layers keep the listener fully engaged, while the masterful production showcases Blacklight Beat Patrol’s ability to navigate complexity with precision. This track encapsulates the album’s spirit of unpredictability and adventure.

Dopey offers a more subdued, meditative introduction before building in pace and dynamism. Temporal shifts and progressive electronica keep it fresh and engaging, with textures that feel as though they are expanding outward into unknown territories. Its progressive nature pushes the boundaries of conventional structure, creating a track that’s as thought-provoking as it is mesmerizing.

Closing the album is Byte Size, a haunting yet peaceful finale that introduces an almost organic-sounding piano – a surprising yet fitting touch. The emotional depth of this track resonates deeply, its dimensional bassline wrapping the listener in a soothing embrace. It brings the album full circle, offering closure while leaving a lingering sense of curiosity and longing for more.

Mastered by Tijan J. Wise of Wise Audio Lab, Meet the Blacklight Beat Patrol defies categorization with its genre-bending appeal and deeply resonant themes. Tracks like Fun with Ray Guns and Project Shellback celebrate individuality and resilience, while others like Ten Paces and Letter E on Repeat offer cinematic, boundless energy. It’s an album crafted for outsiders, dreamers, and anyone who embraces the unconventional – a sonic manifesto for misfits everywhere.

The record doesn’t merely push the boundaries of electronica; it challenges us to reconsider the very nature of sound and expression. Electronica, as a genre, has always been a playground for the avant-garde – an arena where technology and human emotion intersect, but this album elevates it to something almost transcendental. It’s a meditation on disconnection and belonging, offering a sonic representation of the liminal space between chaos and order, solitude and connection. By eschewing traditional formulas and leaning into the unpredictable, the album becomes more than music; it’s a philosophical exploration of what it means to exist as an outsider in a world that values conformity. This is electronica at its most profound – deeply cerebral yet rooted in emotional resonance, a reminder of the power of sound to communicate the ineffable.
