Premiere: Lana Del Rey – TROPICO

admin — Thu, 05 Dec 2013 17:06:29 +0000

Well that was mind-blowing. Anthony Mandler and Lana’s vision for the end of what has to be one of the most beautifully memorable eras in pop music was just unveiled. I could never have dreamt of bringing to life three of the most incredible songs from The Paradise Edition in such a poetic, haunting and just manner. Closure for a new era has never felt so certain. The premiere last night came hand in hand with the announcement of ULTRAVIOLENCE, the new album and creative vision from Del Rey.

You can experience TROPICO below. It features Body Electric (set in the Garden of Eden), Gods & Monsters (set in modern day Los Angeles) and Bel Air (in a conceptual and ethereal world). Taking on board the creative license to use excerpts from Ginsberg’s HOWL and inspiration from Marilyn, Walt Whitman, Jesus and Elvis – characters that have been so intrinsically tied to the lyrical content of Del Rey’s body of work, the short is lit with the most phenomenal colour palate reminiscent of the lovechild of Aronofsky and Almodovar. It’s brilliant and gripping, yet beautifully subtle and fucked up simultaneously.

Watch TROPICO here.

Selena Gomez – Come And Get It (Remixes)

admin — Wed, 15 May 2013 11:43:21 +0000

In line with the new gen perception of the maturing Disney princess, last week, Selena Gomez dropped her hugely anticipated video for Come And Get It. Directed by Lana and Rihanna collaborator Anthony Mandler, the clip sees Selena looking beyond incredible flouncing around a field “Only Girl In The World”-style. The track itself was apparently originally intended for Rihanna, so it is only fitting that Mandler was chosen to direct the video.

Last month we heard the somewhat incredibly curated set of remixes for Selena’s peer Demi Lovato’s Heart Attack and once again curated by the same team of genius, here is the mastered and complete set of Come And Get It remixes, including six tracks which are set for commercial release on May 28 (with accompanying VEVO videos) from Jump Smokers, Robert DeLong, Cahill Club, Fred Falke, DJ M3 Mixshow and Dave Audé. Check them out below. In all fairness, the track itself was destined for remix greatness. It’s production and structure alone allows for so much scope for experimentation – these definitely do it justice.

After previewing two incredible still images from the video via Twitter and Facebook, comes the official trailer (elements from the clip on loop for the duration of the opus) for Lana Del Rey’s National Anthem. The video is directed by Anthony Mandler and features A$AP Rocky as JFK and Lana as Jackie O. It looks like it is set to be quite the work of pop art.

music video: nicki minaj – starships directed by anthony mandler

The arrival of the video for Nicki Minaj’s Starships could be described as somewhat unstrategically late, but is totally worth the wait. Here is the Anthony Mandler directed clip shot in Hawaii featuring the Northern Lights, space/star ships, Nicki in a bikini, Nicki in another bikini, some Hawaiian looking dancers, face paint, body paint, more face paint, kaleidoscopes, neon a la Superbass and various A$$ A$$ A$$ shots. All in all it is a bi-polar festival of insanity on a beach and you will love every single second.
