We last featured Allan Jamisen as he explored mortality, connected with his higher self, and embraced the astral realm with the single, This Is Not an Act, so when we found out that the visionary artist was back with Closing In, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in his world once more.

Closing In opens with a meditative guitar soundscape with psychedelic percussion nuances, astral twangs, and a pulsating core as Allan sings, “There’s a little decency, in every troubled dream…”. Immediately we are drawn into a philosophical universe, laced with metaphors and cerebral energy as Allan shares a brooding timbre.

“Sometimes it’s not right enough, to live in my own skin…” he shares with layered harmonies and growing production, featuring a hypnotic guitar, textured percussion, and spacey laser sounds. It’s giving David Bowie meets Leonard Cohen in the best possible way. He also cites Burt Bacharach and The Velvet Underground as sonic influences.

As with many of his songs, there is an undeniable existential nature and cinematic allure. Closing In is perfect for a TV show like the trippy, mushroom-enhanced Nine Perfect Strangers, or perhaps a movie like Apex starring Charlize Theron, on Netflix.

In essence, Closing In explores emotional collapse, self-examination and transformation after personal upheaval. Allan Jamisen poignantly captures the tension between despair and healing. It is cathartic and transforms pain into something hopeful, emphasizing resilience and emotional rebirth.

We learn that Allan originally wrote Closing In as a poem in Denmark during the 1990s while recovering from divorce. He collaborated with musician and producer Olivier Zahm, who composed music around the lyrics. Vocals and production were completed in Los Angeles with John X Volaitis.

We continue to be in awe of what Allan Jamisen creates, and have added Closing In to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream his exquisite, growing discography, and anticipate future releases.

“What’s up its another day, another phase, another stage, I’m making my play, what more can I say, I’m moving through space in place I can’t stay… but hey, I’m ready today to meet my maker, so come and take me away…” shares Allan Jamisen with a brooding and philosophical spoken word intro, accompanied by a bass-driven trip-hop soundscape as he opens This Is Not an Act.

Now, we have been following the career growth of Allan Jamisen for quite a few months and the artist never fails to deliver thought-provoking and progressive artistry. We appreciate the conscious depth and connected nature of what This Is Not an Act stands for poetically. Being unafraid of death and connecting with the astral realm is a powerful mindset to share, and for this, we are grateful.

As for the sound design, the switch-up into an astral jazz-hybrid with saxophone and flute accents is genius – euphoric in a way to reflect the journey of ascension. The layered vocals and delivery overall remind us of iconic 90s artists like Faithless and Massive Attack.

There is also a cinematic allure that manifests, and there is no doubt that This Is Not an Act would be great for a movie like a sequel or remake of Trainspotting. The artist confesses, “This Is Not an Act explores twin themes of authenticity and mortality.” He explains, ‘The lyrics represent the reflection of an inner dialogue of a person communicating with their higher self, trying to grow beyond their limitations and past mistakes.” We learn that the narrative also embraces a spiritual perspective, describing a connection with deceased loved ones and an acceptance of life’s finite nature.

This Is Not an Act was created with Copenhagen-based producer Joachim Michaelis, marking his first official collaborative release with Allan Jamisen. After recording vocals and additional instrumentation in Phoenix, the project was refined in Los Angeles with producer and engineer John X Volaitis (The Rolling Stones, Tracy Chapman, Bonnie Raitt, and Whitesnake).

Needless to say, we are in awe of the cinematic vibes and conscious pursuit of knowledge expansion. We have added This Is Not an Act to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Allan Jamisen, including The Coalition, and Gotta Do.

Drawing us in with an airy riser and a bold, textured drumscape with an industrial energy, Allan Jamisen opens The Coalition with cerebral vocals as he repeats the mantra, “It’s better than before… damn sure…”

The opus expands with poetic prowess and metaphorical depth as Allan Jamisen details notions of The Coalition. There is definite cinematic allure to the song, perfect for a Matrix movie, a sequel to Limitless, or even a Mission: Impossible film.

We appreciate the fierce nature of the lyrics and philosophical depth, detailed with an Eastern flute and record scratches! Lyrically, we learn that The Coalition is a pointed indictment of the interconnected forces of political authority, military power and corporate profit.

In essence, Allan Jamisen frames the song as a highly zeitgeist-driven commentary on how societal conflicts are manufactured, justified and sold to the public under the guise of democracy and freedom. The repeated mantra “It’s better than before…” has a chilling dual meaning.

As for the production, we deeply appreciate the genre expansive vibe, which fuses trip-hop, industrial weight, jazz-inflected brass, and spoken-word intensity to create a film-noir-like atmosphere.

Allan tells us how The Coalition emerged from an experimental recording process in Phoenix, built from lo-fi sound sources and mobile Pro Tools sessions, before being refined in Los Angeles with veteran engineer and co-producer John X Volaitis.

As always, we are in awe of Allan Jamisen‘s intentional artistry, and growing discography which spans genres and musical styles. We have added The Coalition to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream Allan Jamisen‘s exquisite body of work.

Drawing us in with an atmospheric texture and astral synth melody with a cerebral riser, Allan Jamisen opens Gotta Do with dimensionality and pitched vocals with the assertive lyrics, “I gotta do what I gotta do… We gotta do what we gotta do…”

The opus expands with an airy crescendo, infused with dimensionality and an 8-bit synth line that has hyperpop adjacency, leading us to a boundless acid bassline and fierce vocal ad-libs. The piece is a trip!

We appreciate the high octane journey that we are being taken on, and the sonic switch-up for the artist who is showcasing his genre-defiant energy and broad capability as a creator. The creative ebbs and flows are sublime and the track is both video game friendly, and also perfect for a montage scene in a big film like a future version of The Hangover, or something like Limitless.

There is an empowering energy that manifests with the track, we are enthralled throughout and the vocal hooks serve as a mantra for moving forward and being our most authentic selves. We could also imagine this popping off at a festival like Tomorrowland!

On his message, the philosophical artist confesses, “‘I Gotta Do What I Gotta Do’ is a common phrase and a form of self-preservation – a defiant, almost egoistic affirmation in the face of uncertainty and adversity. Ultimately, in the lyric refrain ‘We Gotta Do What We Gotta Do,’ the collectivist spirit prevails over the illusionary premise of ego gratification.”

In essence, the track turns these simple phrases into hypnotic meditations on survival. We learn that it was written during a tough period in Allan’s life. It is designed to blend this emotional honesty with electronic brilliance, exploring modern human connection through melody and rhythm.

A self-taught outsider artist, inspired by figures such as Bowie, Dylan and Bacharach, Allan’s musical horizons stretch beyond his NYC stomping grounds. From performing with the choir in Phoenix to the LA clubs alongside producer Danny Saber and onto collaborations in Copenhagen with Claes Cornelius of Mega Records his journey is a heady mix.

Guided early on by Gaynel Hodge, songwriter of Earth Angel, Allan has collaborated with a variety of artists and embraced all forms and formats for producing, recording and disseminating art. His narrative speaks of creativity, determination and an indomitable will to speak.

We have added Gotta Do to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the visionary artist, and anticipate future releases!

Establishing the mood with an alien synth, pitched down vocal ad libs reciting the title of the track and a textured soundscape with a dramatic riser that feels cosmic and cerebral, Allan Jamisen opens All I Am Is You with dimensionality and an energy that we have not yet experienced from the genre-bending artist.

Whilst his vocal delivery is primarily brooding and almost sensual, like male rock stars from the 90s, there is also a touch of Prince in there, and with the cosmic bells and alien synths, Allan Jamisen taps into a David Bowie nuance – needless to say, we are obsessed.

The gospel-adjacent harmonies and ad libs are sublime, juxtaposed with Allan’s deep vocals and processed hooks which invite us into a more dynamic reality. The instrumentation is extremely unique – extremely hypnotising, and a great fit for the high concept approach of the lyricism.

All I Am Is You seems to be about the concepts of identity and imitation, but also spiritual oneness. We are each other. Allan presents himself as someone with a hidden truth, but he frames it as something that comes at a cost.

There’s an emphasis on desire throughout the song, in part to the lyrics and his vocal timbre – this comes through in the notion of wanting to be somebody and in trying to please others. On a philosophical level, the lyrics suggest that we often define ourselves by how we are seen by others. “The lyrics were re-written entirely, inspired by Los Angeles, and themes of transference, ego, and collectivist identity reflected back to us through every form of traditional and social media,” Allan explains.

The chorus repeats the idea that “all I am is you.” This could be perceived as Allan reflecting how others act, or how they are shaped by outside expectations. It also points to a cycle where individuality is replaced by homogeneity. The phrase “just like the rest of us” reinforces that theme of blending into a collective identity.

We love the depth of the Phoenix-based composer and painter’s artistry. There are levels to his work that can always be perceived in a multitude of ways, and this is what makes his work truly stand out! We have added All I Am Is You to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Allan Jamisen, including Rise Above, and Living the Dream.

Drawing us in with a captivating melody that will emerge to become the main hook of the song, Allan Jamisen opens Rock & Roll American with a captivating, psychedelic vibe that feels like the love child of Daft Punk and Lenny Kravitz. Needless to say, we are in awe.

We have been covering a slew of Allan Jamisen‘s releases, and we always know that we can expect a phenomenal and masterful instrumentation, and Rock & Roll American is no exception to the rule. It is exquisitely produced and the concept of the song is brilliant and holds a cinematic allure.

It feels like stepping into a dream universe – a Hollywood epic, a tale of nostalgia and timelessness. The psychedelic sound recalls the work of William Orbit. The female harmonies are soft and celestial. They wrap around Allan Jamisen‘s lead vocal like a cloud.

Jamisen tells us how he wrote the track as a tribute to figures who challenged conformity. He confesses, “The lyrics are a commentary about how it feels to be living in the U.S. today. The values seem to be inverted, convoluted and disorienting in comparison with the view of American society that I grew up with. Those values may have been diminished,, but they haven’t completely disappeared.”

We actually really appreciate the trip back into a hey day of peace and good vibes. The guitar work is out of this world. Intimate and raw, but also anthemic! The track honours rebel icons like Elvis, Jim Morrison, and Jack Kerouac.

Per Jamison’s quote, the sadness under the surface has to be acknowledged and feels very zeitgeist. The star sings not to mourn the past, but to revive what still matters – both a tribute and a protest.

Naturally, we have added Rock & Roll American to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and also our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Allan Jamisen, including Rise Above and Living the Dream.

We recently featured Allan Jamisen as he manifested a conscious journey of hope through the trials of an illusionary reality with his sophomore single, Living the Dream. Naturally, we wanted to make sure we covered his discography as fully as possible and also feature his debut single, Rise Above!

Drawing us in with a sublime guitar soundscape, Allan Jamisen opens Rise Above with his signature brooding timbre as he sings, “Next in line, a new day arrives, another blessing in disguise, try to survive and when the day is done, digging deep to rise above…”

Th opus expands with stunning female vocal harmonies as the talented singer and writer shares his optimistic perspective and cinematic allure with us. “Turning hate into love, I’m always gonna rise above…” he sings consciously with poetic prowess.

We deeply connect with the intentional nature of the song, and the electric guitar solo is simply divine! The spiritual nature of what he conveys is very philosophical as the learned artists transmutes his wisdom with lines like, “Well I see my soul from outside of myself and I’m looking inside…”

Once again, the track was produced with John X Volaitis, who is a veteran recording engineer and producer with a history of working with major recording artists including The Rolling Stones, Bonnie Raitt, and Tracy Chapman to name a few.

It is extremely inspiring to witness Allan Jamisen sharing his soulful authenticity and high spiritual quotient with his art.
Establishing the mood with an intimate acoustic guitar and a meditative frequency, Allan Jamisen opens Living the Dream with a brooding timbre as he introspectively sings, “It’s always darkest before the dawn, at the intersection of right and wrong…”

Immediately, Allan Jamisen‘s voice reminds us of early Leonard Cohen or Johnny Cash, and his philosophical depth is tangible as he shares his intentional message with us. Living the Dream appears to be about a person going through a hard and confusing time – something that we can all relate to, but there is more…

The protagonist of this tale is standing between making the right or wrong choice and the illusion of reality as we know it – in Sanskrit and Vedic philosophies, this is called “maya”. Allan sings about feeling lost and struggling between being strong or weak, but there is hope in his message and a conscious light that guides the way through the medium of curiosity.

This transmutes the track into a cathartic experience. Allan is trying to hold on and figure out what to do, and it’s about the pressure of life and the notion of trying to survive while chasing a dream, which when we learn more about the star, is something that he sharing from first hand experience.

The choral vocals, cerebral high synths and divergent bass moments manifest a dimensional soundscape. We feel immersed in the drama. There is no doubt that the track is perfect for massive Hollywood synch deals, perhaps a coming of age movie. The guitar solo is simply divine, intertwining perfectly with ad libs of the title of the track before an almost spoken word moment with a breathy hush before the final chorus.

This masterpiece was co-produced with John X Volaitis who has worked with Tracy Chapman, The Rolling Stones, Marilyn Manson and more. We also learn that Allan has done everything from performing as a lead singer in Los Angeles clubs, to producing music throughout the nineties and even selling his paintings are renowned galleries in Denmark and the USA! Iconic.

Naturally, we have added Living the Dream to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Allan Jamisen‘s exquisite, growing discography, including his debut single, Rise Above, and his latest release, Rock & Roll American.
