Establishing the mood with a sublime guitar soundscape featuring an emotive blues harp, State of Us opens Adore with poetic prowess and the philosophical lyrics, “This one’s for all the others, who never run for cover, whenever the blue sky turned into pouring rain, who never once took shelter in any kind of weather but fell on the needle to escape the pain…”

We are immediately enamoured by the journey that the band is taking us on. The soundscape boasts instrumental mastery, whilst the prose is intelligently and intentionally written. Fans of The Cure, David Bowie, Tame Impala, and MGMT will be able to connect with what State of Us is creating.

The Norwegian band tells us the song is designed to “look back on old and abandoned relationships with equal parts nostalgia and clarity.” They say it “explores the quiet moments of reflection that follow love lost to time – where memory softens the edges, and what remains is gratitude for what once was.”

“Adore is about looking back without bitterness,” elaborates State of Us. “It’s about recognizing that even relationships that didn’t last still shaped who you are. There’s beauty in that realization.”

There is no doubt that the cinematic vibe that manifests would be perfect for a multitude of sync placements, notably a film like Marty Supreme, or One Battle After Another. The first guitar solo is simply transcendental, and we really vibe with the chord progressions that tap into a high emotional quotient. The outro featuring guitar and the blues harp is exquisite and absolutely leaves us yearning for more.

Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Adore to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of State of Us, including Wish, Beautiful, Breathe, and Drifting.
